In The Division , Survival is becoming increasingly imminent. The public test servers for it start today. There is a wealth of information about the DLC.
Today, Massive surprised us with an impromptu livestream. They announced: “So, we are NOW live with information on Survival.” We at Mein-MMO tuned in right away and summarize the information for you.
First of all: The livestream featured gameplay on the public test servers for the Survival DLC. These PTS will be made available to PC players throughout the day. Console agents cannot participate.
The Survival expansion transforms The Division into a survival shooter. However, when the DLC and Update 1.5 will be released is still unknown. We summarize the information that we were shown.
This is Survival
The Survival expansion is paid. This grants you a new mode focused on sheer survival. This in-game mode is also called Survival.
This mode can be played as pure PvE or as PvE with PvP. You will always encounter other players in this mode. In the PvE variant, you cannot inflict damage on each other. The PvP mode offers better rewards since the “danger” is greater.
- Up to 24 players can be in a Survival session.
- If you die, the game is over. There is no respawn. You then have to start a new Survival session.
- You must supply your agent with food and drink in this mode.
- There is a cold system. The temperature is displayed in the upper right corner of the screen. If it is too cold, the agent will freeze, which will eventually lower his health. However, there are fire pits, i.e., burning barrels, distributed throughout the world where you can warm up again. You can also ignite these barrels yourself. It is warmer in sheltered areas.

- You are sick, you are infected. Your goal is to survive and get extracted from this area. You can slow down the infection with medication.
- Crafting plays an important role. You craft items with it – not only gear but also a virus filter or skills! Because the skills are not available from the start. You have to craft them first.
- Generally, you must equip yourself well first. You start with low-level gear, which you gradually improve.
- At the edges of the map, the enemies are weaker. The closer you get to the Dark Zone, the stronger the enemies become.
- To play Survival, you only need access to the Operations Base. You do not have to be level 30 for this. World tiers do not matter for this. All players in Survival are on the same level.
- If you die, you receive an overview of your performance and thus your rewards. The prizes are containers that include items with relevant loot. If you reach the Dark Zone, you can get up to 15 containers per session from Survival.
- A session is supposed to last about 90 minutes. If you want to go home with a lot of loot, it can also take 2 hours.

More information:
- When you start Survival, a cutscene plays where a helicopter crashes with agents. You can watch this here at the beginning:
- You can share your items with other agents – including food and water.
- Moreover, the loot that enemies drop should be available to everyone. If you are in a team, you will have to decide among yourselves who gets these items.
- You need clothing that protects you from the temperature. These cosmetic items are also important in Survival.
Overall, Survival is a standalone mode in The Division that offers a completely new gaming experience and provides your “normal” agents with new items.
Survival will be released on PS4 about a month after PC and Xbox One. However, Update 1.5 will be released on all platforms simultaneously. Update 1.5 introduces World Tier 5. Furthermore, we spotted an item with a gear score of 256 in the stream. Additionally, new gear sets, named weapons, and much more are coming.
What do you think of this information? The reactions in the live chat were mostly positive.
