Many agents on the forums complain that since the launch of The Division, there have been no new content for a popular game mode: the story missions.
Ubisoft’s MMO shooter has now had two updates and a paid expansion. These delivered new content in the form of raids, Dark Zone features, the “Underground”, fresh weapons, gear sets, and gameplay adjustments.
Since the release in March, one mode has been severely neglected: The story missions. Looking back at the development of The Division over the past few months, the story was the mode least complained about by players: the Dark Zone has been plagued by cheats and glitches, and the bugged “Falcon Lost” also gave the raids a rough start – and the fresh Underground missions began with Delta errors and other problems that Massive is currently working on.
Therefore, some agents recently concluded on reddit: The story missions are the best content in the game. They are entertaining, atmospheric, have an exciting story, and are simply fun. They have qualities that the underground missions lack.
Underground missions cannot replace story missions
A good week ago, we discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the underground missions. They may have a high replayability, but they lack the lore. There are no engaging dialogues, no ECHOs, no cool cutscenes. There is no spice. This new mode also has its charm, with the ranking system, replayability, and customization options, but it cannot replace story missions.
Many agents had wished for more content in this direction from “Underground”, the first major expansion. Only two missions were added to the challenge mode, and the following missions received the Heroic Mode: Hudson Refugee Camp, Queen’s Tunnel Camp, Russian Consulate, Lincoln Tunnel Checkpoint, Lexington Event Center, WarrenGate Power Plant.
There have been no signs of completely new story missions for well over four months. However, there is hope for the upcoming “Survival” expansion, which is set to be released this summer.
In it, the player experience will change completely: The climatic conditions will become harsher, food will be scarce, and temperatures will have drastically dropped. We are among the few survivors who must defend ourselves against predatory enemies.
How all of this will look concretely remains to be seen. The Division seems to be developing towards a hardcore survival game. This would definitely provide opportunities for more story missions.
