In The Division, a new weapon is known that is supposed to come into the game with the “Survival” expansion. By accident, it is already on the PTS.
Massive is currently hard at work on patch 1.4, which is still scheduled for release in October. This update does not bring new activities, but rather changes and improves the existing ones to make the player experience enjoyable again.
However, this patch is not the only project that the developers are working on. The “Survival” expansion, is also set to be released this year. Now a weapon has appeared that was supposed to come with this DLC.
MG5 is better than all the rest
The YouTuber Skill Up discovered the light machine gun MG5 at the blueprint vendor in the underground on the PTS, the public test servers. This weapon type is not yet in the game.
He then contacted the lead weapon designer from Massive, who assured him: Yes, this weapon should not be on the PTS. It will not be coming with update 1.4, but rather with the Survival expansion. However, this did not deter the YouTuber from purchasing the blueprint for Phoenix Credits and testing it thoroughly. With the result: The MG5 is definitely better than all other weapons in the game.
What makes the weapon so strong? Compared to other LMGs, the MG5 has simply outstanding values. Here is a comparison with the M249 B:
The base damage is roughly equal, but the rate of fire is significantly higher. Only the magazine size is smaller.
A comparison with the RPK-74 E clearly favors the MG5:
There is not a single reason why one should prefer the RPK-74 E over the MG5. The same goes for the L86:
However, in terms of handling, the MG5 pulls strongly upward. However, this can be compensated with mods for stability.
You can see this beast in action in the embedded video above, as it quickly chews through the health bars of enemies.
Note: This weapon is currently only available on the PTS. Since it is so overpowered, it can be assumed that it will not come to the main game in its current form with “Survival.” Otherwise, it would be the only logical choice for the primary slot.
Update: Meanwhile, according to Massive, the weapon should no longer be available. Moreover, it is still not balanced, especially not for 1.4.
