The shared-world shooter The Division is the best-selling game of the year so far, says Ubisoft.
For several weeks and months, The Division has been facing severe turbulence. Ubisoft’s shooter is currently not enjoyable for many agents in the endgame – as the developers themselves admit. The upcoming October update 1.4 is expected to provide relief, bringing extensive changes. Numerous innovations will affect character balance, which we will present in detail here.
Despite the current crisis, The Division remains the main contributor to Ubisoft’s success in 2016. The publisher recently released a statement regarding its success in sales this year, citing market researchers NPD Group and GfK.
The Division is number 1
According to Ubisoft, The Division remains the number 1 among the “best-selling games” in 2016. Thanks to the MMO shooter, Ubisoft’s market share is 16% in the USA, 14.9% in Europe and Australia, and 13% in Canada.
Important games also include Rainbow Six Siege and Far Cry Primal. The company generates revenue not only at launch but also through “robust post-launch content, services, and support.” Particularly, with the “Skull Rain” update in Rainbow Six Siege, there was a 40% increase in active players.
Two paid expansions are still pending for The Division: Survival and Last Stand. Before they are released, the game is set to be revamped with update 1.4 to restore fun in the post-apocalypse of New York. Specific release dates for both DLCs have not yet been announced.
Currently, the technical test of the PTS, the public test server, is underway. The start of the PTS for all PC agents is scheduled for September 26. Then you can preview – and above all test and influence – how the future of The Division will unfold.
