Ubisoft is planning a film adaptation of their MMO shooter The Division. It will feature several stars in leading roles.
Almost two months ago, we reported that Ubisoft wants to bring The Division to the big screen. Apparently, the French publisher is currently launching an offensive regarding film adaptations of their successful games. Because by the end of the year, the Assassin’s Creed film will be released, which fans of the series are eagerly anticipating.
Stars and Celebrities in The Division?
Assassin’s Creed features stars like Michael Fassbender. The adaptation of The Division should be able to keep pace. According to a report from almost two months ago, Jake Gyllenhaal will be the star of this film. The actor, known from films like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Southpaw, or Brokeback Mountain, is also expected to take on a producer role. Furthermore, the project will be produced by Ubisoft’s Gerard Guillemot.
Now, it’s being reported that the multiple award-winning Jessica Chastain, star of Interstellar and Zero Dark Thirty, is set to play an important role in the “The Division” film. According to the Hollywood Reporter, she is in negotiations to star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in front of the cameras of Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
The setting of the movie will strongly reflect the game: a post-apocalyptic state in New York, a deadly virus, nasty factions, and the “heroes,” the Division agents. In the MMO shooter, they strive to save what can still be saved. In doing so, they search for the origin of the virus outbreak.
However, we will probably have to wait a while before we can admire our agents on the big screen. The negotiations regarding the cast are reportedly just starting. Possibly, more Hollywood stars will be added. Moreover, it was said almost two months ago that Ubisoft is still looking for a writer for the material.
