The global events in The Division 1.7 are supposed to be linked with stories. Additionally, they offer extra group mechanics.
A new feature of update 1.7 will be the global events. Ubisoft recently published an article about these events, containing some interesting information.
The global events were designed to bring fresh air into the open world of The Division. They will only take place in the PvE area in the endgame. The plan is to hold an event once a month, which will then be active for a week. In the meantime, there will be more frequent smaller events in a “double rewards weekend style.”
Global modifiers bring story elements
Once a global event goes live, all PvE activities will get a global modifier. This modifier is supposed to be linked to stories taking place in post-apocalyptic New York, providing more information about the background story and lore. How this will look exactly is still unknown.
What modifiers are available for the events?
Ubisoft introduces three types of modifiers:
- The Global Modifiers are always “positive” modifiers. This means they support you in the fight against NPCs. For example, they can enhance your agent or provide a new gameplay experience. The goal: The global modifiers make activities easier and more interesting as they motivate new play styles. An example of such a modifier: Headshot kills lead to explosions that apply the bleeding status effect to nearby enemies.

- Activity Modifiers: Optional modifiers that allow you to make the content more challenging. These are only available for specific missions in a “Global Event Playlist”. These missions are marked in violet on the map. Not only story missions, but also incursions can be adjusted here. An example of such a modifier: Enemies become “toxic”. If you get too close to them, they deal damage over time. Additionally, headshot kills cause bleeding.
- Group Modifiers: A form of the activity modifiers. They are meant to provide extra challenges with additional group mechanics. In the team, you have to devise tactics to master the missions. Coordination and teamwork will be necessary.
Why should I choose the optional modifiers?
If you choose these additional modifiers, there will be more rewards. These rewards are “Global Events Tokens” – a new currency that you can use to purchase prizes from a new vendor at the terminal. This vendor offers sealed crates containing cosmetic items and new objects that will only be discussed in the future. According to info from ETF members, there should also be “stat items” obtainable through the tokens.
The modifiers shown so far may change before the release of 1.7. They will be tested on public test servers (PC, PS4, Xbox One) in the future.
There is still no release date – neither for update 1.7 nor for the test phase of update 1.7.
