In the MMO shooter The Division, a rumor is circulating that the beta is set to start on January 29.
Two days ago, a screenshot made its way through the Division forum on reddit. It shows a partially redacted email exchange between a customer and the key seller Funstockdigital.
The customer wants to know when the key seller will have beta codes. The key seller replies: The closed beta for The Division will start on January 29, as informed by the “Key Supporter.”
It all seems a bit strange. Such rumors have often turned out to be false in the past, but since fans at the moment are soaking up every bit of information and the date at least seems plausible, the information is making its rounds now.
In our opinion, this information should be taken with caution. But on the other hand: The beta has to start sometime, and January 29 seems to be a reasonable date – at the end of December, a Dutch key seller mentioned the beta was scheduled for February.
Between January 29 and January 31, the gaming convention Pax South takes place in San Antonio, Texas. Compared to the other “Pax” events, it is quite small. So it could be that it plays no role at all in Ubisoft’s plans. Otherwise, publishers often like to use such conventions as a platform for announcements.
