With the “Cinematic Tools” program, you can take amazing screenshots in The Division. The developer of this program has now been banned for life.
“Cinematic Tools” is a program developed by Finnish physics student Matti Hietanen. It allows users to create impressive screenshots in games like Battlefield 1, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and recently also The Division.
With the tool, you can freely move the camera away from your in-game character, pause the time, hide the HUD, and carry out various other tricks to create fantastic shots.
Actually a brilliant tool that allows agents to express their creativity. However, it seems that the Division developers do not appreciate this – Hietanen has now been permanently banned.
Cinematic Tool leads to ban
The modder was already working on the cinematic tool for The Division in 2016, but it was blocked by anti-cheat measures at that time – it did not work.
In early 2018, Hietanen optimized his program and developed a stable version that is now suitable for The Division. Numerous agents tried out the tool and created beautiful screenshots that Hietanen shared via Twitter:
On Tuesday, February 6, however, Hietanen published a somewhat different tweet. He received a message from the Division team:
“We have noted several actions on your account that constitute a direct violation of our rules of conduct. We have taken the necessary measures to protect the experience of other players, which now leads to you receiving a permanent ban. Therefore, you can no longer play Tom Clancy’s The Division.”
Why is this a violation?
Hietanen does not seem particularly surprised or disappointed. He reacted with a “Whoops” and noted that it was still worth it. After all, he was already aware that this program violates the terms of use.
“Cinematic Tools” was not designed for cheating; however, Hietanen used a program called “Cheat Engine” for this purpose. This program can interfere with the game code and make changes, such as taking control of the camera. Using it violates the terms of use of most games.
Therefore, Hietanen explicitly warns on his website that bans are possible if you use his tool:
Please note that some games, such as Battlefield 4, have anti-cheat systems that classify the tool as a hack and can ban you. I take no responsibility for blocked accounts or similar. Use at your own risk.
Now it has caught the modder himself. In an interview with Kotaku, Hietanen states that this is his first lifetime ban. However, he is not discouraged by it. While other agents are now able to create beautiful screenshots in The Division, he is continuing to work on his tools for Battlefield. This franchise was his first inspiration to develop cinematic tools.
And who knows, maybe the Division developers will take another look at the situation and reconsider the permanent ban.
Completely without external tools, you can create a fantastic “Final Measures” build in The Division 1.8!
