In Tom Clancy’s The Division, data miners have found hints about the level system. This system may be familiar to Destiny players.
The maximum level in The Division is 30. Your agents cannot reach a higher level initially. However, this is not the end, as data miners have now discovered: Starting from player level 30, it is important to increase the gear score.
You can view this score in your profile. It is also displayed for players at the maximum level next to their health bar.
This information comes from data miners who shared their findings about the level system with the community. Just yesterday, we reported on clever data miners who discovered the number of missions and weapons in the game data.
This is what the level system in The Division is supposed to look like
First, you need to bring your level up to the maximum of 30; then, the gear score becomes crucial. Data miners have inferred this from the following lines they found in the game data. We translate them into English:
- “Compare the gear scores of the most powerful items in the game to find out which are the best. Increase your average gear score so that you have chances in high-end content and can showcase your skills in the Dark Zone.”
- “Every ‘non-vanity equipment piece’ that can be found when you are at level 30 has a gear score value. The higher the gear score of the item, the stronger the item.”
- “You can view your agent’s total gear score in the main menu next to your player level. The gear score indicates your agent’s progress.”
- “You can recognize the gear score of other agents next to their health bar.”
- “By upgrading your equipment and thereby increasing your overall gear score, your agent gains access to the most dangerous high-end challenges. Your average gear score can be found in the main menu and is visible to other players. This is the average value of all equipped equipment pieces.”

Destiny players among you should find such a system familiar. Because the level of your Guardian (max. 40) and the light level (max. 320) essentially work in the same way. In Destiny, your light level also determines whether you can start the most difficult challenges, which ultimately offer the best loot.
However, it is still unclear to what extent the value in The Division actually affects the gaming experience. In most games, a “gear score” is just an abstract indicator. In Destiny, however, it has a real impact on gameplay, determining how much damage you inflict on higher-level opponents. This remains to be seen in The Division until players reach level 30 and report on it.
At this point, a reminder that this information is not official. However, the information that the data miners have obtained seems quite likely.
In this article, we present the results of data miners regarding the number of missions and weapons.
