In The Division , you will be presented with some objectives in update 1.7. There are supposedly over 500 Commendations.
The State of the Game aired on June 15. The developers discussed several topics, primarily the Commendations.
Commendations refer to in-game achievements that are introduced with update 1.7. In other words, you master a specified objective and are then rewarded with prizes. These are not new activities – they simply set new objectives within the existing activities. The information known about them is as follows:
- By completing Commendations, you increase a total score. The higher it is, the more “bragging rights” you get – rights to brag.
- Some Commendations reward new cosmetic items. Normally, agents, as seen in the following image, have a phoenix on their upper arm. With the new items, you can display a different symbol.
- If you are extremely good in the Dark Zone, you will receive a symbol to show everyone how “badass” you are.
- You can only wear one of these symbols at a time.
- There are over 500 Commendations. You may already have some when you start The Division 1.7. Others can be completed passively in 1.7, and some require a new playstyle from you. Some Commendations are said to be very challenging. The tasks are varied.
- Commendations apply account-wide.
Examples of Commendations
Some Commendations were shown in the livestream. Here is the overview of them:
Important: This is a developer build, which is why “only” 110 Commendations are displayed here. It has been assured that there will be over 500.
You earn Commendations by:
- Reaching Level 30
- Completing missions
- Reviving allies in co-op
- Retrieving contaminated items
- Killing named bosses in the DZ
However, there will also be unique Commendations such as:
- Completing the Raid Dragon’s Den without being hit by an exploding toy car
- In survival mode, watching pictures in a gallery for three minutes
- Closing a certain number of car doors
- There are explicitly no Commendations where you must kill dogs.
There are also Tier Commendations: One objective consists of several intermediate steps that you can achieve. For example, collecting many credits:
Additionally, there are Commendations for those who like to collect.
What are Commendations for?
It has been repeatedly emphasized that the Commendations are meant to keep motivation high. You get tons of objectives that you can aim for and that reward you when you achieve them. Moreover, it aims to bring players into activities that they usually play little – ones they have already forgotten even exist.
More information from the State of the Game:
- For update 1.7, PTS will be available. These public test servers will run on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. So far, there have only been PTS on PC. A date is not yet known.
- Update 1.7 is understood as a feature update. Update 1.8, however, is intended as a new content delivery.
- The DeadEYE set and the search mine will be adjusted and tested on the PTS to 1.7.
- The Urgent Talent works as intended – there is only a UI bug.
- Starting tomorrow, an event will launch where you will receive extra rewards for killing named bosses.
Interesting: Can Commendations increase long-term motivation?
