For many agents in The Division, the PvP area is more of a part of the game to avoid. Therefore, some players are now getting creative and are fixing the balance themselves.
Since the release of The Division, the PvP has been plagued by balance issues. Time and again, there have been gear sets that players felt were overpowered, and even now there are constant debates about the secret Predator, the Striker and the Nomad.
These sets stand out with their attributes. They outperform the others in some areas. Therefore, inventive players are continually looking for ways to create a better PvP experience.
Level 29 – Alternative Meta-Game in PvP?
A method that has been known for a while but is becoming increasingly popular is creating a PvP character that no longer levels up after reaching level 29.
The idea behind the level 29 method. The catch is that in The Division, players at level 29 only play against each other. They are in their own league, and there are their own rules.
What makes the difference? At level 29, players are not yet able to use gear sets. These are only available at the maximum level. This eliminates a large part of potential builds, but that is the intention behind it.
At level 29, high-end gear is the best gear you can equip yourself with. The advantage is that all players are on a similar level and have the same conditions.
How to quickly reach level 29 and participate in this Division PvP
How to effectively reach level 29? Ideally, you have 3 friends who can help you through the story missions. Gear and mods with extra kill XP should also give you a good boost.
The probably fastest way:
- Each of your 3 friends starts a mission
- and plays it until the end but does not complete it.
- Now you jump from mission to mission,
- so that your friends can finish them as soon as you arrive.
- This way, you quickly receive the rewards for 3 missions.
- Repeat this as long as necessary.
If you are new to The Division, however, we strongly recommend playing the campaign in the traditional way. Don’t spoil the fun by getting carried right away. Enjoy your first playthrough.

What should you keep in mind before level 29? You can accomplish several things while leveling up to save work later. First, you should
- fully upgrade the medical wing. The associated skills like the first aid kit, the healing station, and the booster are some of the most important skills in the game,
- and unlock the safe houses. Ideally, let your team members teleport you to these.
Also, keep the dark zone checkpoints in mind.
Level 29 – what comes next? Your path should now lead you into the Dark Zone.
- Level up to DZ rank 20, to unlock all vendors and safe houses
- Search various shops for gear
- Farm high-end gear in the northern DZ areas 7-9, in areas 1-6 you only receive purple equipment from the bosses
- Both boss kills and clearing landmarks yield a good amount of loot
- Get supply drops and pay attention to contamination events, the rewards are generous
Note: At level 29, the vendor has the same equipment on offer, just adjusted to the level. So check our article about the vendor reset if you are looking for good gear! However, this will change on the night from Friday to Saturday, so the current offer won’t be available for long.
Back to the roots?
Even YouTuber Widdz likes this idea and has already tried it some time ago. He sees similarities to PvP in Survival or 1.0, where most players were at a similar level. In his video, he explains some important points and shows gameplay from the Dark Zone.
If you are looking for variety in PvP, can forgo build diversity, and want to try the probably most balanced form of PvP in The Division, then get to a new character and level up to 29!
