A quote in an advertising graphic from The Division that puts Destiny in a bad light is causing a stir. The quote seems to have been taken out of context.
It’s about to start! On Monday at 14:01 Ubisoft will launch its servers and invite agents into the world of The Division. To make their game appealing to a broad audience of potential customers, Ubisoft has released about two new TV spots that make you excited for the MMO shooter.
Now an advertising graphic has emerged that is causing a stir and confusion. In the advertisement, it seems as if GameZone clearly prefers the new shooter The Division over the “other shooter” Destiny:
[The Division] blows Destiny out of the water
Colloquially translated, this means that The Division would annihilate Bungie’s MMO shooter, that The Division is superior to Destiny. The problem is that GameZone did not say this – at least not in that context.
The statement only referred to the number of beta players
GameZone’s statement neither referred to the quality of the games nor did the website intend to declare that The Division is superior to Destiny. The article, written by Tatiana Morris, only referred to the number of beta testers: Here The Division had 6.4 million more than Destiny with 4.6 million. That is the actual context.
According to the US site Kotaku, Ubisoft asked the journalist for permission to use this quote. She granted it, but without inquiring how or in what form the sentence would be used.
In the future, the journalist wants to avoid such confusions and ask more precisely. The second quote, with which Ubisoft is promoting, should also be taken with caution. The site IGN is said to have remarked on The Division that it is the “best new franchise.” That has been said. However, that quote dates back to E3 in 2013.
