In The Division, we present the gear set “Tactician’s Authority” and ask: Is this set worth it in practice?
When it comes to choosing gear sets, many agents recommend the “Watch’s Call” set. Perhaps combined with a few pieces of the Striker’s gear or other items with nice bonuses.
In contrast, the “Tactician’s Authority” set is not considered the top choice when discussing “the best set” in The Division. Some players even claim in forums that this gear set from Massive is poorly thought out. Is that true, or is the Tactician’s Authority simply underestimated?
What Makes the “Tactician’s Authority” Stand Out in The Division
The “Tactician’s Authority” set consists of a total of six pieces. You can acquire these in the raid “Falcon Lost”, in the Dark Zone, in daily missions in Challenge Mode, and from the special equipment vendor in the Operations Base. We have detailed the exact locations of the set pieces in The Division here.
Each individual armor piece of the Tactician’s Authority grants you specific bonuses. If you have multiple pieces of this set equipped, additional bonuses will be unlocked. Starting with 4 set pieces, a unique talent is activated, which can only be obtained through the Tactician’s Authority.
- 2 Pieces: +4000 Skill Power
- 3 Pieces: +20% Haste (this reduces the cooldown of skills)
- 4 Pieces: Talent “Tactician’s Authority”: After causing a total of 60k damage as a group, you gain 1% skill strength, up to a maximum bonus of 100%. However, the bonus decreases by 1% each second as long as the group does not cause any more damage.
At first glance, this is an excellent set for skill power builds, allowing you to use your skills even more efficiently. However, there is a catch to this, which many agents criticize.
“Tactician’s Authority” is Not Suitable for Skill Power Builds
The problem is: Beyond certain skill power values, skills are not further improved. For many skills, the maximum is reached at about 45k skill strength: The effect of the skill does not increase any further, and the cooldown time does not decrease.
This means: Every additional skill point becomes useless. If your agent is already fully invested in skill strength, this set with its advantages is of no use to you anymore. Therefore, many users criticize that they cannot specialize in the support role in The Division. There simply is no gear set that could advance this build.
Other agents, however, praise this set, like the YouTuber ThePwnstar4hire. He must also admit that the Tactician’s Authority cannot further improve a skill power build, but it does open up many more options.
For example, you can increasingly focus on the stamina attribute, but thanks to the unique talent “Tactician’s Authority”, you can also enjoy the benefits of high skill power. The set thus offers hybrid solutions.
However, the talent only shines when you play in a group and consistently deal damage. Only then can you maintain the skill power bonus at a high level. If you are playing solo, this set is likely less useful.
On one hand, you can focus on the attributes firearms and stamina with the Tactician’s Authority, but you do not have to give up skill strength. On the other hand, however, this set does not help you improve your already strong skill power build.
