Anyone playing The Division 2 on PC can test the upcoming specialization starting today, June 4th. The Gunner can be unlocked on the PTS.
Here’s how you can test the Gunner: The Division 2 gives players the opportunity to try out new content on Public Test Servers (PTS). Players were able to preview most of the content of Title Update 3, only the 8-player raid was not included.
When does it start? Update, 4 PM: The PTS are now online. Massive just announced this on Reddit .
Update, 4:28 PM: There seems to be issues with the PTS. Currently, you can download the new version, but a login might not be possible. Massive is already investigating the problem.
How can you play the Gunner on the PTS? You need to complete several challenges if you do not own the Year 1 Pass. This applies to both the PTS and the live servers.

The Gunner is expected to be the tank among specializations
This is the new specialization: Ubisoft describes the Gunner as “Guardian of the SHD Agents” with a focus on sustained damage and durability.
- His special ability makes him tougher the more special ammunition he carries
- His unique weapon is a portable minigun
- He can confuse and draw out targets from cover
- The Gunner gains a new grenade type, the foam grenade, which immobilizes enemies in place
- You can find all information about the Gunner in our overview of the 4th specialization.
When is the specialization expected to hit the public servers? There is currently no exact date. However, it is expected to arrive later in June.

Fans are doubtful about the tank aspect but are excited about the minigun
What do fans say about the Gunner? There is still no gameplay and more detailed information about the abilities and the skill tree is missing. Nonetheless, many players are sharing their impressions on Reddit.
- Most are curious whether the specialization can really be a tank.
- Until now, it has been quite difficult to create a tank build in The Division 2.
- One tends to die quite quickly outside of cover.
Therefore, some fans are wondering if the Gunner can truly serve as a tank. Sinoooo commented on Reddit: “This specialization could be fun if they balance it well […], but based on the current state of the game, I’m cautiously optimistic.”
However, the majority are excited about the minigun and are already sharing iconic images like this one from the film Predator in the Division 2 subreddit:
Some are already making plans to finally take revenge on the enemy tanks with miniguns. Especially the first raid boss Boomer is drawing hate, as Jaf918 makes clear: “First thought: Do you remember all the times you knocked us down, Boomer? Because I damn well remember.”
Despite the minigun, our readers are also cautious. Exat writes in the comments about the Gunner: “The thought of blasting around with such a weapon is quite tempting, but I have concerns about how they will balance it against the other weapons.” Furthermore, he wonders how the armor buff will work.
Robert Theisinger is already diligently preparing for the specialization: “I’m already collecting new gear for it for a few days and am therefore well-equipped for my new build.”
There are still open questions, but most are primarily curious.
What do you think of the specialization? What are your expectations?
