In The Division 2, the new major Title Update 5 is on the way. Along with new content, it brings many important improvements and adjustments that aim to make the shooter more attractive again and align it more closely with the wishes of the fans. But is that enough to bring you back?
When exactly is Title Update 5 coming? The next major update for The Division 2, including all important changes and adjustments, will be released on Tuesday, July 23, across all platforms and for all players – regardless of whether they own the Year 1 Pass or not.
At the same time, the “Episode 1” DLC will be released for all Year Pass holders, bringing fresh content to The Division 2. Agents without a Year Pass will have to wait one week longer until July 30. Then they can join the action as well.
Title Update 5 and Episode 1 for The Division 2 – What’s included
Title Update 5 primarily brings changes, improvements, and bug fixes for various areas of the game. Episode 1, on the other hand, focuses on new content.
What Title Update 5 brings
The list of changes is long, so we will summarize the most important points here for you:
Raid: The Raid “Operation Dark Hours” will receive a new difficulty level called Discovery Mode, where matchmaking will also be available.
This new difficulty level is mainly aimed at players who want to experience the raid at the airport in a quieter setting or want to practice the process and its mechanics.
However, no raid-exclusive items will drop there. The best raid loot continues to be reserved for the normal difficulty level.

Crafting: Crafting will be improved with the new patch. It will become possible to craft items with a maximum gear score of 500. However, an upgrade of the crafting bench will be required. Additionally, crafted items can now be used for recalibration, and guaranteed brand materials will be provided when disassembling a brand item.
Exotics: There will initially be new Exotics. What the new exotic weapon Diamondback and the exotic BTSU gloves can do, you can find out here: What the two new Exotics from Title Update 5 can do.
Then, bosses in heroic missions will also be able to drop an Exotic – and that even with maximum values – but also with some limitations.
More information about the crafting changes can be found here: The Division 2 has good news about crafting and Exotics
Skills: Skills and skill mods are set to be massively overhauled and strengthened with the new update. Skills are finally expected to provide an adequate alternative to pure weapon DPS builds. If agents can reach 3 million DPS with an assault rifle build, they should be able to do the same with a pure skill build with Title Update 5.
Especially mods and cooldown times will be adjusted. In this context, the stat “Cooldown Reduction” will also be changed and strengthened. It will then convert to Skill Haste and increase with Skill Power – including a 33% bonus.

Weapons: Many agents have complained about the miserable state of shotguns since release. This issue will be addressed in Title Update 5. Shotguns are set to become weaker in PvP and stronger in PvE.
Furthermore, 2 new weapons will be introduced:
- the assault rifle Carbine 7
- and the Stoner LMG
And this is what these two new weapons can do: New weapon in The Division 2 is an LMG with 500 bullets – How good is the Stoner LMG?
Flashlight: This feature has been requested by many, especially by players who like to explore the darkest corners of Washington D.C.
Now agents will receive a pistol mod that they can use as a full-fledged flashlight: Here’s how to get the flashlight that many wished for
New Level and Reward System for Helpful Players: The so-called Shepherd System aims to ensure that helping other agents in the game is worthwhile. There will be ranks and special rewards for players who respond to the calls for help from other agents and assist players in need.

Secret Merchant Cassie Mendoza becomes more useful: She will start selling items with a gear score of 500. At her place, you can snag named items and some exotics in addition to normal gear.
New Apparel Event: With the launch of Title Update 5, a new apparel event with the summer theme “Heat Wave” will also start, where you have the chance to get new cosmetic items like
- weapon skins
- outfit sets
- emotes
- or new masks
These items are only available during this event.
What’s included with the “Episode 1” DLC
“Episode 1” is the first of 3 DLCs planned for the first year of The Division 2. Owners of the Year 1 Pass will receive access 7 days earlier. Here’s what’s included:
Two new story missions: Manning National Zoo and Camp White Oak. These are full-fledged missions comparable to other main missions in the game. In the zoo mission, you must hunt down the Outcast leader, Emeline Shaw. In Camp White Oak, you must attack the Black Tusk and capture one of their leaders.
A new PvE activity – Expeditions: This is a kind of puzzle activity on the wooded outskirts of Washington, consisting of multiple steps. However, shooting and looting will not be neglected. Overall, the goal is to find friendly survivors and uncover the fate of a lost military convoy.
These expeditions consist of three stages, called wings. The wings will open weekly. One wing will open on July 23 – the second will go live on July 30. The expeditions are somewhat larger than the regular missions in the game.
New Classified Assignments: Owners of the Year 1 Pass can look forward to new Classified Assignments – in the “Central Aquarium” and at the “NSA Site B13”.
What do fans say about the upcoming content?
Overall, a large part of the changes and new content are well received by the fans. Most of this has already been tried and tested extensively by PC players on the test servers.
Especially the numerous adjustments are receiving praise and raising hopes that The Division 2 might regain its footing with this update. Some compare Title Update 5 to Update 1.4 of The Division 1, which was when the previously maligned game first substantially improved.
However, where there is criticism is precisely the centerpiece of the new “Episode 1” DLC – the expeditions. Many fans had higher expectations: Veterans criticize precisely the centerpiece of the new DLC
