The Division 2 brings the first major update after the title Update 6 and rolls out version 6.1 to the servers today. Find all the information and key details about the patch here.
What’s coming in Division 2? Although many players had little expectation for this year, the loot shooter “The Division 2” is releasing quite a large update to provide agents with a few hours of gameplay over Christmas.
The patch went live on the public servers on December 10, 2019, and brings extensive bug fixes and balancing, as well as a holiday event and a completely new hardcore mode. Here are the details.
Server Status – Division 2 was offline for over 8 hours
Update December 12, 2019 – As compensation for the lengthy downtime during maintenance, all players who log in this year will receive 3 keys for the “Silent Night” clothing event.
Update 5:45 PM – Maintenance ended a bit earlier than announced. The Division 2 servers are back online after more than 8 hours of maintenance and should be accessible again.
Update 3:30 PM – Maintenance has been extended by another 3 hours! The issue has only just been resolved. The servers are expected to go back online at 6:30 PM.
Update 1:10 PM – Maintenance has been extended by 2 hours! An unexpected issue has occurred. Maintenance is set to continue at 3:30 PM.
- Start at 9:30 AM on December 10, 2019
- Length of maintenance likely 4 hours
- Division 2 can be played again around 1:30 PM
- During the entire maintenance, the servers of The Division 2 will be inaccessible
- The update will be approximately 3 GB in size, with minor differences between platforms
The regular maintenance day was moved from Thursday to Tuesday only a few weeks ago, while the first part is now maintained on Thursday.
Update 6.1 arrives with a new mode and an event
What do the new contents look like? The Division 2 is bringing new content for agents who are already in the holiday spirit a little less than 2 months after the major title Update 6. This is under the heading “Situation Snowball” and aims to offer quite a bit.
Situation Snowball
The developers already talked about the upcoming holiday event in the last community stream “State of the Game” last Wednesday (December 4).
What impact will this “situation” have? With Situation Snowball, a group of enemies enters the game that teams up with the “Hoarder”, the loot goblin. Who knows, maybe they want to steal Christmas.
If you see one of these Backpackers, you will notice a Santa hat, and when you shoot his backpack, a crazy snowball cannon will drop from his inventory. If you follow him, you will come across a large group of enemies.
Here’s what we know so far:
- New login screen
- Holiday supplies for all players
- 3x gear
- 3x clothing containers
- A matching Santa hat
- Loot Goblins (Hoarders)
- can drop the “Sleigher”, a snowball weapon
The developers say that new information about Situation Snowball will be released throughout the maintenance day, and perhaps there will be a few surprises.

Clothing Event #5 – Silent Night
The update also launched a new clothing event, bringing players some new cosmetics and emotes.
What’s included? Contrary to the expectations raised by the name “Silent Night,” no angel skins or Santa Claus pants are included. All four new outfits are hardcore soldier skins, catering to the desires of many players.
This is what the clothing event brings:
- 4 new outfits
- 5 emotes
- 9 weapon skins
- 1 new mask
Hardcore Mode Beta
For many agents, surely the highlight of the update, the hardcore beta surprisingly announced last week including permadeath.
What is the HC mode? In this mode, you start a new character and have only one life available. Once you are taken down, you cannot respawn and must start over.
The information about the HC mode sounds exciting. However, there are currently no rewards for the rest of the game; however, it is also classified as a beta version, and improvements are expected.

Division 2 not in hibernation yet
What’s next for Division 2? Although initially canceled, the community stream “State of the Game” is expected to take place again this week. Players have compiled information on a roadmap for 2019/2020.
The hardcore mode will be a welcome change for some players, and we will see if the concept works well for the loot shooter.
Will you try out the hardcore mode or get some parts of the outfits? Will you be playing Division 2 again this year?
