Massive commented on the supposed heavy placeholder bug in today’s State of the Game for The Division 2.
What kind of bug is this? The placeholder bug has apparently existed in the game for some time but only recently became widely known.
- Players were shocked to find during tests at the shooting range that many of their hits were simply not registered by the game.
- This problem currently occurs cross-platform on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
- Many were concerned that the bug could occur throughout the entire game.
- The consequence would have been that players would deal significantly less damage.
But what does Massive say about the issue?

The error is less severe than initially thought by players
This is what Massive says about the bug: According to community manager Hamish Bode, the team has investigated the error thoroughly. They found that there is an issue with the targets at the shooting range.
Apparently, it is a bug with the hitboxes, causing some hits not to be counted. However, this problem only occurs at the shooting range, as the developers emphasized.
Accordingly, no one needs to worry that this has also been the case in missions or other activities. Thus, concerns that the bug could affect difficulty levels are likely unfounded. Console players, in particular, have been worried about this.

Why specifically console players? Since the raid Operation: Dark Hours has been active, there have been ongoing discussions in the community. While many on PC are easily completing the raid – sometimes in under 20 minutes – very few have mastered it on Xbox One and PS4.
A discussion arose about how much harder The Division 2 is on consoles and that adjustments are needed. When the news of this bug circulated in the community, it reignited the discussion. At least this point seems to have been resolved now.
Additionally, more and more console players are now completing the raid. Some players can complete the first phase in just a few minutes, while many still take hours:
More info from the State of the Game:
- PTS: Currently, the new specialization can only be played by completing challenges on the PTS. This is not intended and will be fixed soon. First gameplay of the Gunner is already available.
- Specializations: Random drops for ammunition will be removed. From now on, you will see a bar next to your ammunition display. This can be charged using the perks of the specialization, indicating when you will receive ammunition again.
- Gear Mods: Currently, it is not possible to equip general mods on high-end and gear set equipment on the PTS. However, red (attack), blue (defense), and yellow (additional) mods can now be equipped on all respective slots. There is no longer any categorization into critical, precision, and so on.
- Skills: Extensive changes for Title Update 4 should not be expected. However, work is underway on improvements to make tank and skill builds valuable again.
- Dark Zone: The Abtrünnig status is now available in the Occupied Dark Zone on the PTS. This is supposed to function as it did in the “Vanilla Dark Zone,” like in the Dark Zone of The Division 1, prior to Rogue 2.0. Theoretically, it is possible to infinitely level the manhunt status.
- Exotics: Many have already discovered an exotic holster on the PTS. Apparently, there are also kneepads available on the PTS. These two are also supposed to come into the game after the PTS.
