The Division 2: That is why developers hid ducklings and bears in the game

During the pre-show of Ubisoft Forward, there was also talk about The Division 2. However, this was not about new content – but a cute Easter egg.

This was shown: Today is the big “Ubisoft Forward” event, where Ubisoft showcases its new projects. However, there was also information about new indie games, TrackMania – and The Division 2 beforehand.

Here it was about a popular Easter egg from the community. In the dark world of The Division 2, players usually find themselves among destroyed buildings and rubble. However, colorful birds kept appearing in between: Little rubber ducks are scattered throughout the game.

What are all these rubber ducks for?

This is how the developers explain the ducks: When the ducks first appeared, the developers said that they are somewhat part of the storytelling. That there are still people living in the city, and they want to have a little fun – even in the dark world of The Division 2.

But there’s a bit more to it: “That’s a thing with programmers: If you talk about your problems with a rubber duck, it can help,” explained level artist Karen Stanley. One developer then took it to a new level: “He used a giant duck in a level to remind himself that he wanted to do something.”
