For a long time, it was suspiciously quiet around The Division 2. However, on Wednesday, December 4th, the supposedly canceled community stream “State of the Game” took place and came with a big surprise: Title Update 6.1 is coming on December 10th with a Hardcore Mode!
What’s going on with Division 2 right now? Some players believed that the major loot shooter The Division 2 had already said goodbye for the holidays with the recent cancellation of the community streams “State of the Game”.
Then came the surprising announcement that the streams in December will indeed take place. Even more surprising, the developers announced new content for this year during the stream yesterday, December 4th, 2019.
However, the announcements themselves might be the best part. A Hardcore mode with permadeath and dedicated servers has been announced. It is set to launch on December 10th, which is next week.

Hardcore Beta for The Division 2 already next week
How will the Hardcore mode work? Although the HC mode is initially released in a beta version, it seems that the work has progressed quite far. Here are the details:
- The Division 2 wants to become more tactical and introduces a Hardcore mode
- If you are killed in this mode, there is no possibility of respawning – permadeath!
- The mode is set to go live with the maintenance on December 10th
- To use the HC mode, a new character must be created
- You will need at least one free character slot
- The mode is initially considered a beta, but should work completely
- So far, the character is completely cut off from the core characters
- In HC, you have no access to your core stash, only to the cosmetics of other characters
- There will be dedicated hardcore servers where the complete game is accessible
- You can play missions, reach the endgame, and explore the world normally
- The Dark Zone and the raid are also available
- In this mode, you will only encounter players who are also in HC mode
Hardcore has probably been in planning for a while: The developers have been working on this mode on the side for a while and are excited to present this gift to the agents this year.
However, they also emphasize that it will initially run as a beta and further work will be done. Likely to unlock rewards or advantages for the main character. There won’t be anything like that available at launch.

Loot Shooter with Hardcore Mode – Does it Work?
This will surely be an interesting experiment, but it could work out well. Hardcore modes have worked in other games that also require a lot of time, like Diablo 3, for example. Whether this principle can be directly transferred to Division 2 remains to be seen.
It will be exciting to see which builds will prevail in this environment and how far the agents can go with their fragile lives.

What else did the guys in the stream have to say? Besides the Hardcore mode, a holiday event was announced for the update next week (December 10th). Players will receive a Santa hat and chances for new cosmetics.
In a roadmap for 2019/20 for Division 2 on reddit, all details have been summarized by users.
HC mode could benefit Division 2: Although some players have already written off Division 2, it is exactly these unexpected changes and content updates that service game players want to keep engaged.
This HC mode could really turn out well, or what do you think? Will you try a round of Hardcore?
