The developers of The Division 2 finally showed a roadmap in their Dev Blog. However, most people probably expected something completely different. A newly introduced feature is also receiving criticism, although it is actually cool.
Where does The Division 2 stand now? The mood around The Division 2 is currently not really good. Although the game certainly offers many hours of good entertainment without becoming repetitive or boring, the endgame looks different for some agents.
Especially veterans and many long-term players lack substantial content that can captivate them in the long run – despite Seasons. In addition, there are numerous bugs as well as deep-rooted issues surrounding loot or balance. Some have even declared the game a failure or dead.
And concrete information on how The Division 2 will proceed and what is planned to change the current status quo has been scarce lately. Recently, Massive resumed the “State of the Game” format after a summer break, and many hoped for fresh information.

These were the expectations for the State of the Game: This week there was another SotG stream. And many players were hoping for new substantial information about Title Update 11 or the new, highly anticipated endless mode in a skyscraper. This was because Massive intended to talk about it for the first time at the end of August.
After all, this evokes memories of the popular endless mode Underground from the first game and could, as players hope, finally add more replay value to The Division 2, which many are missing. Moreover, this is also the only truly solid content expected in the foreseeable future.
In short: Players want to finally know how The Division 2 will continue and what content they can expect in the near future. Especially the skyscraper mode has the agents excited. Currently, many simply see no reason to log into Massive’s shooter and hope that this will change with the Skyscraper.
This is what players received: In this week’s State of The Game, there was no important information about the skyscraper mode or Title Update 11. Instead, they talked about transmog, a new feature from TU11 and presented a roadmap. However, it was not about the future of The Division 2 as a game, but for planned topics in the upcoming “State of the Game” streams.
What to expect in the coming weeks regarding The Division 2:
This is causing tension: In the community, there is quite a bit of tension after this week’s State of the Game issue. The video has almost as many dislikes (423) as likes (469) on YouTube. There are numerous angry comments there and also on Reddit.
These are just some exemplary excerpts:
- “You guys need a new and more efficient PR team.”
- “Another pointless episode. They ignore the real issues.”
- “Oh boy… A roadmap for State of the Game instead of for real content in the game…”
The general consensus is that the current State of the Game was an absolute waste of time and is becoming more and more like that in general. It could get truly interesting, if at all, in two weeks when they will probably finally discuss the skyscraper.
In addition, they want a real roadmap. For the game and content, not for planned discussion topics at the developer blogs, which is basically the announcement of an announcement. However, burning topics and problems are hardly represented on this “false” roadmap. Many believe that development is happening without considering the players and that they are not being heard.

There is also criticism for transmog: During the SotG, a new feature for TU11 was introduced – the transmog system, allowing players more freedom regarding the cosmetic customization of their agents. However, this cool and somewhat desired feature also receives considerable criticism – even from us at MeinMMO.
Hardly anyone can understand that the developers come up with such trivialities, despite the game having significant problems in numerous critical areas such as loot or bugs. Instead of addressing these issues, they are building a cosmetic feature that does not help the game in any substantial way, but would only be a nice addition if the game were running smoothly.
Moreover, some of the players’ most important wishes were also not taken into account. Many have long been wanting a way to simply hide certain equipment pieces. However, this is not possible with the transmog system. Here, too, it is said that Massive is creating a feature that hardly anyone needs, and even there, they are not doing what the community actually wants.
What happens next in The Division 2? First information on loot improvements are expected to be discussed on August 26, with the probably most interesting topic “Skyscraper” on September 2. Many are now placing their (partly last) hopes on information about the new endless mode. Otherwise, there is hardly anything on the horizon that could make The Division 2 significantly more attractive in the long term.
It is to be hoped that the developers deliver accordingly. Because for The Division 2, much more is needed than just a few new equipment pieces, a superfluous roadmap, or cosmetic “Quality of Life” improvements for the game to regain its attractiveness and motivation.
Currently, Season 2 is running in The Division 2. For whom it is worth taking a look, you can find out here: Season 2 is live – What’s new and is it worth checking out?
