The developers of The Division 2 have finally granted first insights into the new mode “The Summit”. We summarize all known information about the upcoming battle through the skyscraper for you.
Many have been waiting for this: As announced, September 2nd was the day. Massive finally broke the silence and presented the already hinted new mode. The format previously known as Skyscraper is officially called The Summit and will be included in the game with Title Update 11 (TU11).
For some players, this new content is the last straw they cling to, hoping that The Division 2 could still turn things around and finally offer more replay value and long-term motivation.
Accordingly, many agents are eager to finally learn more about The Summit. Here are all the important details.

Everything we know so far about The Summit
In the State of The Game on 02.09, there was a lot of information about the summit mode.
What is behind Summit? As Massive announced, Summit has been developed as a replayable PvE mode. When you jump in, you should be offered an action-packed experience that is different with every run. In principle, The Summit is a kind of “Greatest Hits” of all PvE experiences that have existed in The Division so far.
The mode is apparently supposed to do exactly what many players hope for: to bring more replay value and long-term motivation to The Division 2.
When is The Summit supposed to be released? The Summit is expected to be included in the game with TU11. However, there is no exact release date yet. But many speculate that it could come as early as September.
Because on 04.09. Title Update 11 along with The Summit (in full!) will be playable on the test servers (PTS) – unfortunately only on PC. While there will be several test phases, the new update should typically also become available on the live servers shortly thereafter.
Who can play The Summit? Summit will come as a free update, but only for owners of the “Warlords of New York” expansion, since the mode takes place in a skyscraper in New York. Without the paid Warlords add-on, there will be no Summit mode.

What is included in Summit:
- In The Summit, you start on the ground floor of a skyscraper and must fight your way up through a total of 100 floors.
- All enemy factions will be represented in this mode.
- A new experience will be offered each time. You never know who you will face on which floor during the current run.
- The environment changes from floor to floor. There are dozens of floor sections with a predefined look.
- The layout is determined when you reach the floor – including the faction represented there, spawn points, and, if applicable, the directive (a kind of modifier).
- The environment is thus partially predetermined, but there are also numerous random elements.
- There will be new and old tasks: for example, hostage rescue or destroying servers to deactivate the Warhounds.
- 10 floors are roughly equivalent to the length of a Stronghold, i.e. a faction base. The amount of XP you earn in a 10-floor segment is also approximately the same as that of a Stronghold.
- Targeted Loot is active in Summit as well. The assigned loot category applies to the entire skyscraper and is the same on all floors.
- On your way up, you might encounter rogue agents (and maybe hunters) randomly.
How The Summit plays:
- The mode starts as you approach the elevator on the ground floor.
- If you are playing for the first time, you can initially only go to the 1st floor. From there on, you fight your way up floor by floor.
- Every 10 floors, there is a kind of boss level or floor that unlocks a checkpoint at the end. For example, if you defeat the boss on floor 10, you unlock a checkpoint and can use the elevator to go directly to floor 11 next time. You don’t have to start at floor 1 every time.
- On your way to the namesake summit, you will have to fight through various difficulty levels (normal, hard, challenging, heroic, legendary). The higher you go, the higher the difficulty.
- Once you have unlocked a checkpoint, it remains active throughout.
- The difficulty after the first successful run thus depends on you. Because once you have unlocked the checkpoint, you can freely select which checkpoint floors and, therefore, the respective difficulty via the elevator.
- By the way, the global difficulty is ignored. In Summit, this is determined by the height of the floors.
- Summit is designed in such a way that you can tackle and complete the mode solo. If you play in a group, the difficulty will scale accordingly – even the floors at legendary will scale with it.
- After every boss defeated, you have the opportunity to return to the lobby.
Is there matchmaking? Yes, in The Summit there is a player search for different difficulty levels, which helps you find more players. You essentially select a difficulty and are then placed on the corresponding floor. By the way, you can also join friends on higher floors, even if you haven’t progressed that far yourself.
Are there exclusive rewards in The Summit? Yes, so far a new Exotic is known that will be exclusively available through the new mode – the “Ridgeway’s Pride” Chest. This chest piece will be tied to a quest that you unlock when you reach the last floor of the skyscraper. Once you complete the quest, you will be able to craft the new Exotic.
