In The Division 2 developers Massive will soon bring “several hours of new narrative content.” The new episodes are expected to represent significant improvements compared to the DLCs from The Division 1 and will be free.
This is what Massive says: In an interview with Gamingbolt Live Content Manager, Yannick Banchereau, talks about Episode 1, which will come to The Division 2 in the coming months. Players can expect hours of new content.
What’s in Episode 1:
- There will be two new main missions, which are full-fledged operations.
- Additionally, a “completely new player experience” will be brought with the Expeditions.
How long should the content last? Banchereau says that they are talking about “several hours of pure new narrative content.”
In addition, everything will be just as replayable as any other mission in the game.
Everything being introduced now will therefore be added to the endgame. They are talking about “many hours of content.”
DLCs were a weakness of The Division 1
Here’s how it was in The Division 1: In the first part, 3 paid DLCs were released, which mostly took side paths and expanded the game with new modes and ideas.
The actual main story was not expanded with the DLCs. This proved to be a weakness throughout The Division 1. The DLCs brought little momentum to The Division, especially since players on PS4 had to wait a month before they could play the DLCs. This, along with the required purchase price, tore the community apart.

The Division 1 became significantly stronger only when the DLCs were over and the team made a turnaround with free updates. Especially Patch 1.4 is retrospectively considered a turning point for the title – also by Massive itself.
Banchereau says: This is where they focused. Many wished for an expansion like this for The Division 1. It is therefore important for Massive to deliver what they promised:
- More narrative elements
- more new areas to explore
- and more gameplay experiences.
This is how DLCs work in The Division 2: The DLCs for The Division 2 are expected to be free. However, buyers of a season pass will receive early access to the episodes 7 days in advance – those without a season pass will have to wait.
Massive has planned 3 episodes for year 1 of The Division 2. Episode 1 is coming in the next months, expected in July or August.
