At The Division 2, dark clouds are gathering as a recently made decision is meeting little favor. Even Charles, the most loyal German-speaking YouTuber on cover shooters, is laying down his arms.
This decision has been communicated by The Division 2: The joy of regular and new content for The Division 2 was dampened last week.
The developers announced on August 18 via Twitter that they will not be able to meet the scheduled dates again and therefore there will be delays. It was stated:
In our ongoing effort to improve your gaming experience, we have decided to extend the duration of each season to four months. Season 2 will now begin in October.
announced Tom Clancy’s The Division via Twitter
They also confirmed that the next DLC will “not be released this year” as a result.
The reason for the decision was explained as follows: The creators of The Division 2 justified their decision by stating that the extension of the season duration to four months will allow them to make technical improvements to the game while simultaneously continuing to work on the expected seasonal content.
However, the reactions to the developer’s news are rather muted. Because The Division 2 now has a long history of delays concerning its planned updates and releases.
And now Charles, the most loyal YouTuber of the cover shooter in the German-speaking area, has had enough of the developer’s recurring pattern of empty promises, excuses, and delays.
The schedule for Year 5 is therefore seriously in jeopardy
That’s why the disappointment is so great: Many loyal players and fans of Division 2 hoped that after the big announcements regarding new content and modes, a fresh wind would soon blow through the cover shooter.
And in June 2023 it even looked really good, as everything was going according to plan.
- Season 1 “Broken Wings” introduced the free mode “Descent” into the game for all players, as well as a slightly modified manhunt.
But now, shortly before the start of Season 2 in August 2023, it seems that planning at Ubisoft for The Division 2 is once again going awry.
- Season 2 was supposed to run from August to November 2023 and bring the Incursion “Puppet Master.” Its start is now postponed to October 2023.
- Also, the main highlight, the new DLC, which was supposed to come in Season 4 “Black Diamond”, is being postponed and will therefore only be released in 2024.
“Four months delay is an insult to the fans”
What does the community say about it? The news was not well received and disappointed many. Even if this is actually what one has come to expect from The Division 2 by now.
Some still hoped for better times and welcomed the announcements of fresh content for Year 5. Instead, they are once again stretching things out and prolonging the game with “fillers.” And many players are no longer interested in this.
The player TheWitchKing comments on the statement disappointedly:
Four months delay because you are trying to “improve the gaming experience” is an insult to the community. Just tell the truth. I have been playing this series since the Division 1 beta, but now I’m done. […]
commented TheWitchKing on Ubisoft’s announcement
Others are all too familiar with this approach and emphasize how much Ubisoft is ruining the game.
- Paulo Campos Chaves finds: “The same excuse for all seasons, poor programming and organization. […] “
Interest and trust in the game is declining, especially among heavy players. Even Charles, the most loyal German-speaking YouTuber for The Division 2, has a clear opinion on this and says: “Season postponed? I’m out.”
“Next it will take 1 season 6 months or 1 year”
What Charles said about the announcement: The now former streamer for Division 2, Charles, made clear in his last video: For him, as a long-term player, The Division 2 is no longer appealing. He justifies this by saying that in his opinion too little new content is being delivered to keep the gameplay exciting.
[…] There will be nothing in this game before 2024 after summer. Absolutely nothing. Not at all. […] The small DLC that will come someday, which will not be a complete DLC but only a small one, and the Incursion mode that might come in October [2023], is not enough. For me, it’s done at the moment.
Charles expressed his decision via YouTube
You can view his complete statement here:
This seems to have reached a point in the community of The Division 2, where many players no longer have any expectations of the cover shooter and yet are continually disappointed by Ubisoft.
Others, however, believe The Division 2 is still a really good game, like JoshOnLinear: “As long as there are more Global Events until the second season, I am happy to wait until October. […]”
However, Charles’ withdrawal underscores the growing frustration and dissatisfaction among players. While the developers defend their decisions, it remains to be seen whether The Division 2 will be able to afford enough time through this postponement to still release Year 5 as planned with all content.
What is the further plan? It is planned to release an updated roadmap. It should then add more global events for the current season in September 2023 to make the wait more bearable. A Public Test Server (PTS) for Year 5 Season 2 is also set to open in September 2023, which players will then have access to.
What do you think about the extension of the seasons and the postponement of the DLC in The Division 2? And what do you think about Charles’ decision? Feel free to leave your opinion in the comments.
Not everything works in this mode in Division 2 either, as a crash can completely ruin your run:
Division 2 has a new mode with great rewards, but it is a crash lottery
