Players of The Division 2 have discovered a secret boss on Coney Island and are now looking for a second one. They are hoping for a new Hunter mask – a popular cosmetic item. What is the story?
What is Coney Island anyway? With the release of Episode 3, the new area Coney Island was introduced. It is an amusement and entertainment district in Brooklyn, one of the boroughs of New York.
Before heading into the “Warlords of New York” expansion and the new open world of Manhattan, agents can already take a short trip to New York. There are 2 new main missions waiting for them, which will connect the story to the new expansion.
What have players discovered on Coney Island?
A secret boss: In the mission “Coney Island Amusement Park”, players recently discovered a secret boss. This boss belongs to the Cleaners and does not simply appear – it must be specifically spawned.
To do this, you need to find and shoot 4 rats with glowing red eyes in the horror cabinet with its unmistakable skull entrance – before going to the computers in the haunted house and starting the video sequence with Aaron Keener.
How this works in detail can be seen in this video by NothingButSkillz:
If you catch the 4 rats and start the video via the terminal, the secret boss named Rattigan will appear during the subsequent second wave of Cleaner enemies.
However, it only drops additional loot and does not have any special surprises – even though some report having finally received the new exotic weapon Chameleon here.
A new Easter egg: Additionally, a new Easter egg has been discovered in the horror cabinet. There is a white, blood-smeared Hunter mask with a knife in the left eye hole.
This is a clear reference to “Friday the 13th – The Final Chapter”. However, you cannot pick up the mask.
It also did not hold any further clues for the agents about whether it was more than just a mere Easter egg from the developers. After all, there are a lot of them in the game.
How does it all fit together?
This is what players are trying now: In the last “State of the Game” stream (SotG), the developers gave a hint that there might be a second secret boss on Coney Island.
Following this, several agents went on the search but have not yet found anything, and no mechanics have been discovered with which this potential boss can be triggered.
However, some are sure that the mask and other rat figures are connected to such mechanics.
The Hunter mask placed there is seen by some not only as a reference to “Friday the 13th”, but also as a clue to the second secret boss, who could be a new Hunter.
Moreover, the new Hunter mask would be the 13th cosmetic of this kind (there are currently 12 Hunter masks) and quite conceivable for the upcoming Friday the 13th in March – also as a surprise only a day after the anniversary of The Division 2 (on March 12, 2020).
Additionally, in the horror cabinet, alongside the 4 rats with glowing red eyes, there are exactly 13 rats with green eyes placed. These are also seen in a possible connection with the second boss.
What is behind all this? Is the entire mask story more than just a mere Easter egg? Currently, it is not exactly known. However, some players are feverishly attempting to spawn the second secret boss with various potential mechanics.
Everything seems to revolve around the number 13, and it is suspected that the green rats may have to be shot in a specific order, or that the supposed second boss will only become active on March 13.
It remains exciting, and we will keep you updated if something new arises here.
Have you also set out in search of the 2nd secret boss on Coney Island? Are you possibly one step further in the search for him? Or do you think nothing more will follow?
