World Tier 5 is now available in The Division 2. If you want to raise your Gear Score more effectively there, there is a change that you should definitely take note of.
What World Tier 5 brought: The Invasion Update brought the long-awaited World Tier 5 to The Division 2 last week. As part of this, a new event started, along with a new stronghold of the Black Tusk, the first Gear Sets, as well as a new cap for the Gear Score.
For most players, the grind for better and stronger gear continued. However, some things have changed – including on the path to the new Gear Score soft cap of 500.
How your gear has affected the Gear Score so far: As the developers explained some time ago, the Gear Score of your entire gear influenced the Gear Score of the drops.
So it was not only the level of the items that your agent equipped that was decisive – also the Gear Score of the items that you stored in your inventory or in the stash counted towards the level of new rewards.
This means players could use the gear of their choice and were not forced to equip items with the highest Gear Score to receive drops with a high Gear Score and continue progressing.
This has changed with the new update: After the new update was released last Friday, this mechanic has reportedly changed.
Now, the determination of the Gear Score for the equipment drops apparently depends on the gear you currently have equipped. So if you want to progress quickly with your Gear Score, it is currently advisable to always wear the highest possible gear.
While leveling up the Gear Score in World Tiers 1 to 4 was still relatively easy and straightforward, there are now fewer freedoms if you want to advance quickly and effectively.
This is why many fans are unhappy with the new update: Whether this change is a bug or if World Tier 5 simply works differently in this aspect is currently unknown. However, it could very well be a bug.
With the Invasion Update, several bugs have crept into The Division 2. Additionally, fans believe the game has regressed in some areas. Here are some examples:
- Many players complain they receive high-end drops below 500, although their character has already reached or even exceeded the new soft cap of 500. This was different for the previous soft caps in World Tiers 1 – 4.
- The update brought unexpected nerfs for skills, weapons, and gear.

- Enemies and agents often freeze in strange positions or in the T-pose upon death. The character stands or hovers upright with arms spread sideways.
- The ammunition for the individual weapons of the three specializations drops very rarely or in some sessions not at all.
- There were problems with rewards that could be farmed multiple times. Therefore, weekly projects have been temporarily disabled.
Many players are now calling for test servers where such changes should first be tested before going live.
What do you think of the latest update for The Division 2 so far?
