The Hunters, a mysterious group of particularly strong and feared opponents, also cross paths with agents in The Division 2 in Washington D.C. From each Hunter, you can obtain a cool cosmetic mask. We explain what you need to do for that.
What are the Hunters? The Hunters hunted players in The Division 1. They were among the toughest and meanest opponents in the game and could quickly take down even well-trained agents at an unfavorable moment.
In The Division 2, these Hunters are back. Early in the campaign, it is hinted that you will also encounter these elite fighters in Washington. However, during the first encounter, you will be spared by the Hunter. Later, however, you can deliberately “summon” them and hunt them down yourself. Cool rewards await you for that.
How to get Hunter Masks in The Division 2 – Here’s how
What rewards are there? Each of the 12 Hunters drops their own mask – the coveted trademark of these Hunters. You can collect them, display them as trophies in your operations base, and also equip them as a cosmetic item that gives your agent a cool and unique look.
Additionally, some of these 12 Hunters drop Ivory Keys. Once you have collected all 8 of them, you can open a chest next to the barber in the White House that contains more goodies for you.
Enter the building through the main entrance, turn right at the first opportunity, and then go through the second door on the right. There you will find the chest.
You will receive from it
- the Shield Splinterer F2000 assault rifle with random talents and scaling gear score depending on world tier
- a matching white weapon skin
- and the notorious Hunter axe as a pendant for your backpack
The locations of the 12 Hunter Masks
This is how you discovered the Hunters: In the world of The Division 2, there are clues encoded with a cipher hidden in numerous graffiti on buildings or walls.
Players have already deciphered these cryptic symbols and thus found out where to encounter the 12 Hunters, including masks, and what you need to do to “call” them. Because they do not appear there on their own.
You should pay attention to this when hunting: With a few exceptions, you must hunt the Hunters at night. “Night time” begins at 7:00 PM game time and ends at 5:00 AM. It will be displayed to you on the right side in photo mode.
However, some Hunters sometimes have issues when it is still very bright – even after 7 PM. But if you generally hunt the masks at night, that is, in darkness, you can’t go wrong. There is no fixed order for the individual Hunters, by the way.
Additionally, you should consider that the Hunters are level 35. If you don’t want to be downed after a hit, you should best tackle them after reaching the maximum level of 30 with correspondingly good gear. Many can also be mastered quite well solo. In a team, it is, however, significantly easier.
The Ghoul Mask: North of the Lincoln Memorial in West Potomac Park, you will find an entrance to the sewer.
Go underground and follow the tunnel until you come to a large room. There you need to interact with a computer that is located near a large map of Washington.
Once you activate the computer, a lamp lights up, illuminating an X on the map. There you will find the Hunter.
At the marking, you will find a platform in the game world as scaffolding, on which a lamp blinks. Shoot the bulb, and the Hunter will spawn.
Defeat him now, and you will receive the mask and an Ivory Key. Remember, this mission must be completed at night.
Ghost Mask: Go to this intersection south of Capitol Hill in the Southwest district and locate the memorial plaque.
Break the lamp that illuminates the monument, so that the names on the plaque are no longer visible.
Then salute using the emote function outside the water facing the memorial plaque.
If the Hunter is not triggered, salute a few more times (some report between 6 – 8 times) and step closer to the flagpole. Take out the Hunter, and you will receive the Ghost Mask and an Ivory Key. This mission must be completed at night.
Revenant Mask, Midas Mask: Go to the marked position in the northwest of Washington (West End).
There you will find a large hotel complex. Head to the middle of the building complex, where you will see a pool.
Now perform jumping jacks in the pool using the emote function. This will spawn two Hunters that need to be defeated. After winning the fight, you will receive two new masks and an Ivory Key. This mission must be completed at night.
Demon Mask: Go to the marked position in Downtown East.
There you must enter the adjacent building marked with a question mark in the image through the subway.
Once you arrive at a kind of courtyard enclosed by the building, you need to climb to the height with the palm trees and shoot four targets you find in the windows across.
Once you successfully hit all four targets, the Hunter appears from whom you will receive your next mask and an Ivory Key. This mission can also be approached during the day.
Purple Mask: Go to the marked building in the east of Downtown East.
Enter the building from the south (below). Activate the computer in the first room.
Then cross the courtyard to the northern part of the building. Activate the phone there.
Once that is done, the Hunter appears in the courtyard. You will receive the Purple Mask and an Ivory Key from him. This mission can also be completed during the day.
Diamond Mask, Phantom Mask, Death Mask, Cross Mask: In the East Mall area, you can obtain four masks. First, head to the marked building.
Inside the building, you need to flip a switch and then walk to the park with the Christmas tree east of the building.
Stroll around the Christmas tree, and four Hunters will appear. Take them out and collect the masks. There is also an Ivory Key here.
It may happen that only three instead of four Hunters spawn in one place. Then look around the park area a little. The fourth Hunter usually spawns just a bit away from the main group.
How to get these 10 Hunter Masks is explained in this detailed guide by NothingButSkillz:
The Ghost Mask: To begin with – this is now the correct and regular way to obtain this mask. First, head to the Washington Monument (the big column) in West Potomac Park south of the White House.
If the checkpoint at the monument is still occupied by enemies, you will need to capture it first. Go inside the monument and rappel down through the elevator shaft to the basement.
Press the button under the monitor on the thick column. This will reveal the location of three graves that you must visit in a specific order (see image).
At each grave, you must salute using the gesture menu. You will know if it worked if the screen or HUD distorts slightly for a moment.
Now return to the monitor in the basement. Press the button below again. On the monitor, an orange circle (the Division Ring) should now flicker.
By the way: If you have mastered this step and you need to start from the beginning again, you only need to activate the terminal. Saluting at the graves will no longer be necessary.
Now go up through the elevator shaft and then walk straight outside. There, you will see a ring projection on the ground – a red circle.
Stand in this circle, and the Hunter will appear right in front of you. Defeat him, and you will receive the next mask and an Ivory Key. This mask can only be obtained at night.
In this video by NothingButSkillz, you can see the entire process:
Phantom Mask: This is also the regular way to obtain the Phantom Mask. First, you must fight your way to this location in the East Mall area.
Now look towards the building south of your position. In front of it, you will find a truck. Climb on its roof.
Now look at the building itself. You need to hit the windows of the building in a specific order (see image). Note that the windows are divided. You always need to hit the lower window panes.
If you miss a shot, that’s it for the attempt. You will then need to log out and try again.
If you hit the 16 windows in the correct order, the Hunter will appear to the right of the truck (when facing the building). Kill him, and you will receive the Phantom Mask and an Ivory Key. The mask can also be obtained during the day.

Have you already taken down some Hunters and proudly wear their mask?
