With the upcoming massive expansion for The Division 2, much equipment will become obsolete. It’s now clear: the Exotics are also included.
The Division 2 will receive a massive update in a few weeks, and the big expansion “Warlords of New York” brings a lot of new content to players, but also removes quite a bit.
It was already known that there would be an item reset, and we reported that almost all equipment will become useless. However, it hits the Exo collectors particularly hard. It looks like we will have to farm each Exo again to obtain a level-40 version, at least at the launch of the expansion.
Developers confirm: Exos will be temporarily useless with “Warlords of New York”
Where is this information coming from? On Twitter, Senior Game Designer Nikki Kuppens of Division developers Massive answered some questions from interested agents. One statement particularly stands out:
What did the tweet say? A user asked several questions regarding Exotics and how we can best obtain them at level 40. Kuppens responded in detail and clarified: At the beginning of the expansion, level-30 Exos will become increasingly worthless.
Upon release [of the expansion], you will not be able to upgrade the Exotics to level 40. We want to focus first on the new Exotics and on the items overall. However, we want to enable this later and are looking for interesting ways to make exotic materials more meaningful.

As we get closer to level 40, the less valuable our current exotic weapons and armor pieces become, and at the launch of the expansion, there will be no way to upgrade them.
Exos can drop everywhere
So where can we get Exos? YouTuber “NothingButSkillz” provided some info about the new acquisition methods in his English YouTube video.
According to his information, all exotic items, except for the raid-exclusive Eagle Bearer, can drop in the open world. The likelihood depends on whether you have already found the Exo or not.
Even the quest-based items, like the Chatterbox or the “Dodge City Holster”, may be dropped by an unassuming enemy in a back alley.
So we have to farm everything again? To get back to the strong Exos, we will probably have no other choice.
This can be particularly frustrating due to the coveted Eagle Bearer assault rifle. This weapon is only available in the Dark Hours raid, and the drop chance is extremely low.
The other Exos will probably be found again over time with a bit of grind. Currently, bounty missions and strong yellow bosses seem to be the best options for this. The new Exotic rifle Chameleon can be found fairly easily.
