The developers of The Division 2 have finally revealed more details about how the game will continue into its third year. We summarize what you can expect as a Division agent throughout 2021.
For a long time, the future of The Division 2 was unclear, many fans were worried whether the shooter would continue at all. Since February 2021, we have finally had certainty: the game will be continued – even though the development team itself seemed a bit surprised.
But how – hardly anything was known. It was only mentioned that later this year additional content for The Division 2 will be released and that work is already underway. Now, things have finally become more concrete.
What we know now about the new content
This will be the focus: In the next major update, the team wants to bring a completely new game mode that has never existed in the franchise before (not even in The Division 1). Unfortunately, there was no further information about this. That will come closer to the update.
Additionally, they are currently exploring new ways to advance your agents. The focus is on increasing build diversity and build viability.
When will this update be released? The development of the new major update is still in its early stages and will take several months. The current timeframe is “late in 2021” – at the earliest. They want to take their time to bring meaningful changes to the game.
Who is actually making the new content? The development of the new update is being led by a team of project veterans at Ubisoft Massive – including Adrian Trasca (as Producer) and Yannick Banchereau (as Associate Creative Director).
Additionally, a group of talented developers from Ubisoft Bucharest has been brought on board for support.
What will happen in The Division 2 until the new content arrives?
What to expect until the next major update: Veteran players and long-time fans may be a bit disappointed now – as hardly anything new will come before the next major update:
- The seasons of year 2 will be unlocked and sent for a second run, meaning they will be playable again – complete with the associated leagues and events.
- This means: The next Season 5 will be a reissue of Season 1. This gives players the chance to obtain missing or missed rewards as well as collectibles from the previous seasons.
- In addition, there will continue to be work on the game – in the form of smaller title updates.
- The only truly new thing: there will be new clothing events
Here, by the way, is another interesting info graphic that was shared by the developers at the same time:
