Some PC fans may need to rethink their decision on which platform to play The Division 2. As the developers announced, the game will be available in the Epic Games Store. This means there is a big loser: the Steam platform. The Division 2 even deleted its Steam page there.
This is what happened: Ubisoft announced that some of their games will be available in the Epic Games Store in the future. The collaboration starts with The Division 2 on March 15.
At the same time, The Division 2 has also disappeared from Steam.
This means for players: Fans of The Division 1, who played the MMO shooter via Steam, will have to switch platforms for the second part. Because unlike the predecessor, the game will not be sold on Steam. And that is not expected to change anytime soon.
That’s why The Division is in the Epic Store
Why is Ubisoft taking this step? The developers at Ubisoft are convinced of the work at Epic. Ubisoft’s Vice President for Partnerships, Chris Early, says: “Epic continuously brings fresh air to the video game industry. Their digital distribution model for third parties is the latest example. Ubisoft wants to support this mentality.”
In addition to The Division 2, other games are also expected to be released in the Epic Store. These will be announced later this year, according to a representative from Ubisoft.
Why is this so surprising? The predecessor, The Division, was marketed through Steam, and The Division 2 was previously promoted on Steam as well. Therefore, it is all the more surprising that Ubisoft is abandoning these plans and cooperating with Epic.
The product page for the game has now been removed from Steam and is only findable in the cache.
What does the Epic Store offer: The Epic Store offers three different versions of the game. Players can choose between the Standard, Gold, and Ultimate Editions. Pre-orders will also gain access to the Beta version of The Division 2. However, the start date for this has not yet been announced.
Those who do not want to buy in the Epic Store can also shop in the Ubisoft store. In the Uplay store, players even have two additional versions, the Dark Zone and the Phoenix Shield Edition, to choose from.
What’s next for The Division 1? The predecessor remains available for purchase on Steam. Ubisoft has not announced any changes in this regard, and it can be assumed that Steam will continue to support this game.
