Today, the big Update 3.0 comes for The Division 2. It brings many new features but also removes some from the game. Some “Commendations”, which are based on daily logins and playtime, have to go. Massive thinks they are just not fun.
What are Commendations? Commendations in The Division 2 are what would be achievements, triumphs, or accolades in other games.
Small or bigger side tasks that The Division 2 sets for agents – for that, there are small patches as rewards.
Which Commendations are being removed? Typical “diligence Commendations” that are based on daily logins and daily playtime are being removed. These 5 Commendations are being taken out of the game by Massive with the Update 3.0 today on May 14:
- 28 Days Distinction – Players had to spend 672 hours (28 days) in The Division 2
- Distinguished Service Ribbon – Players had to log in for 30 consecutive days in The Division 2, play for at least one hour, and complete a mission
- Supreme Response Distinction – Players had to complete 4 main missions and rescue 5 civilians on 7 consecutive days
- Year One Merit – Players had to play for 14 days in the month and do that for a total of 12 months
- Division Service Merit: On 100 days, players had to play for 1 hour each and bring 20 resources to checkpoints
That’s why they are being removed: Massive says they have removed the Commendations because they simply did not provide a good experience for the players.
Sometimes players would simply forget to log in or the streak would be broken even though they did nothing wrong.
Massive wants to introduce Commendations that show players how committed they feel to The Division without needing to log in daily. Players who already received the Commendations will keep them.
There will also be a “Vanity Patch” to compensate for the time that has already been invested.
Will there be new Commendations as well? With the patch, The Division 2 will also introduce some new Commendations:
- For instance, there will be Commendations for the raid “Operation Dark Hours”, which is not open yet
- For a diligence reward, it is enough to play for 30 hours
- Additionally, there are further rewards for completing all missions and control points on hard, finishing 50 invaded strongholds, or occupying 50 heroic checkpoints.
