The Division 2 and its players are preparing for a major overhaul of the equipment. Here are a few tips on how to optimally prepare for Gear 2.0.
What is Gear 2.0? Since the “State of the Game” on January 15, it is clear: The Division 2 is completely revamping its equipment system. Talents, attributes, skill power, everything is under scrutiny, and the equipment level will also be increased.
During the community stream, the responsible parties presented the significant changes, and almost every piece of equipment seems to be affected. Here are a few tips on how to prepare for the big overhaul now.
Gear 2.0 release is still a while away, but it’s worth preparing
When is Gear 2.0 coming? In the SotG streams, the guys from Massive repeatedly emphasized that these changes will not come with TU7/Episode 3. The release of Gear 2.0 is still a long way off and will likely not be before March/April, if at all.
But for everyone who still enjoys the game and is regularly on the hunt for named items, new builds, or a jump-scare in hardcore mode, you can already prepare for Gear 2.0. Division YouTuber “Patrick Wolf” has presented some good tips in his English video.
Tips for looting until Gear 2.0
You can continue to engage in your activities and play what you like. But if you are already there, shift your priorities a bit and keep more of certain specific equipment.
- Keep many backpacks and vests – Only these types of armor will have talents. All other, smaller pieces will only come with attributes.
- Bunker components from all brands – The brand sets will also be completely overhauled, and it’s worthwhile to have something from each brand.
- Collect everything named equipment – The named talents will mostly disappear. Special items will allow for “super god rolls” that have values higher than the normal max values for an attribute. Check regularly with Cassie, as there’s new named equipment with each reset.
- Acquire exotic equipment – With a new equipment level, it will be necessary to upgrade your exotics to the new level to utilize their full strength. Gather many exotics to have enough exotic components for that.
- Farm high attribute values – “Patrick Wolf” assumes that values like shield damage, fire damage, or hazard protection will be heavily nerfed with Gear 2.0. If you have high values here, you’ll start off with an advantage in your attribute library.
- Bonus: Hardcore mode – “Patrick Wolf” also has a tip here. The brand “Badger Tuff” could work very well in hardcore mode with the new system. He expects a strong buff for this armor brand.
Sell or dismantle the equipment you have only kept to eventually use the good roll.
Stuff your chests and characters full of high values and keep your top rolls. So far, the developers have not said whether the attribute library works across characters.
Crafting and recalibrating
So far, we do not know what it will cost to load the attributes into the library. However, since the new system brings more advantages than the old one, the developers have hinted that recalibration will become more expensive. So keep your credits and resources together.
- Gather materials for recalibrating and crafting – If you regularly recalibrate and tweak your builds, recalibrating and crafting can already be quite expensive. Gather everything up to the cap if possible, then you will be well prepared.
- Acquire blueprints – If you are missing any blueprints, use the time until the transition to track down the rest. Since TU6, you can see the missing blueprints at the workbench and even get a hint about where to find them.
- Hard Wired – Since the gear sets could be very strong with the transition, “Patrick Wolf” recommends collecting as many “Hard Wired components” as possible. This way, you can quickly create a really strong gear set build at the new equipment level.
- Upgrade the workbench – If you have not yet used crafting or have a second character with an unupgraded workbench, bring the crafting workshop to its highest level. It will otherwise be very expensive if you want to use it spontaneously.
With a cupboard full of blueprints and resources, you can immediately craft items with maximum values as soon as the new equipment level is unlocked and set about thwarting the latest plans of the rogues.
Episode 3 comes before Gear 2.0
In February, Episode 3 will take the agents back to New York. A scientist associated with the deadly “Dollar Flu” virus is being held by the Black Tusk on Coney Island. The Division aims to rescue the man, seeing him as a way to obtain a cure.
