Choi Ji-won, director of the Souls-like Lies of P, has already played Elden Ring: Nightreign. In an interview with Eurogamer, he shared his thoughts on the new game from FromSoftware.
What does the head of Lies of P say? Choi Ji-won found Elden Ring: Nightreign to be “very refreshing and new,” as he revealed in an interview with Eurogamer. He himself had the opportunity to play the spin-off of Elden Ring during a network test. In a network test, developers check how stable the servers are in operation before releasing the game to the majority.
Developer sticks to single-player games for now
This is what the head of Lies of P says: According to Choi, it becomes clear while playing Nightreign that good developers are behind this project:
I tried [Nightreign], and it was very refreshing and new. This gave me the impression that they are good developers who are constantly pushing their limits, their imagination, and their vision – and you can feel that.
What does this mean for the future of Lies of P? Nightreign has motivated him to deliver the best possible experience with Overture – the first expansion for Lies of P. When this will be released is still uncertain. What is known is that the storyline starts before the main game.
However, Lies of P: Overture will remain purely a single-player experience. According to Choi, they want to build on the lessons learned from the base game. However, he does not want to rule anything out for future projects. “As far as our future endeavors are concerned, we are definitely open to all kinds of considerations,” says Choi.
Internally at developer NEOWIZ, they are also discussing what the future of the genre might look like. Choi explains:
Instead of predicting how the soulslike genre will evolve in the future, we are focusing on finding our own identity and our unique strengths.
When will the game be released? Elden Ring: Nightreign will be released on May 30, 2025, on the following platforms:
- Steam
- Xbox One
- Xbox Series X|S
- PS4
- PS5
