S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chornobyl has been struggling with numerous bugs upon its release on Steam, which can even hinder players’ quest progress. The development team reveals on Steam which problems they will tackle first – and especially, when.
What happened at the release of Stalker 2?
- The horror shooter from GSC Game World was one of the most anticipated games on Steam. The release was already postponed several times in advance.
- On November 20, 2024, after years of waiting, the shooter was released on Steam.
- The first reviews were mixed. Our colleagues from GameStar and GamePro even issued a buyer’s warning, as the game struggles with numerous bugs, especially concerning the NPCs, particularly after 10 hours of gameplay.
- Despite this, many players forgive the developers for the poor state of the shooter. Currently, Stalker 2 has a 78% positive rating on Steam with around 27,000 ratings submitted.
The reasons might be that players have not yet progressed beyond the 10 hours of gameplay. On the other hand, it could be due to players being accustomed to a catastrophic launch like the previous title.
However, the developers are aware of the many bugs. They have now revealed on Steam how they plan to save the game and when the first patch will come.
The problems are not visible in the Stalker 2 trailer:
Developers reveal how they want to save Stalker 2
What is the plan? The development team aims to tackle many bugs at once. In particular, errors that cause the game to crash or impede quest progress should be eliminated as quickly as possible.
The team places a great focus on the NPCs:
- NPCs should no longer get stuck in objects, hindering quest progress
- The behavior of NPCs should be adjusted
- Misplaced NPCs, heads, clothing, and missing facial animations should also be addressed
A complete list of all patch notes can be found on page 2.
When is the patch coming? The saving patch is expected to be released within the current week, both on Xbox and PC. However, it is not clear exactly when this will happen according to the message.
Stalker 2 is not the only game that had a rough start this week. However, things do not look as grim for the dark Chernobyl shooter as they do for the new flight game on Steam: Microsoft Flight Simulator makes a hard landing on Steam – losing about 40% of its players in 2 days
