Actually, the MMORPG Dragon’s Prophet, which was discontinued in May, was supposed to return on August 10 via Steam. However, that did not happen. In the meantime, the entry has also disappeared. What happened?
What is the situation? The MMORPG Dragon’s Prophet shut down on May 29. But without any announcement, an entry for the online role-playing game appeared on Steam and announced the return for August 10. This restart was backed by a company called BOBYGAME.
However, August 10 came and nothing happened. The date was then rescheduled for one day later. But on August 11, something else happened. Instead of experiencing the launch of the MMORPG, Valve took the Steam page of Dragon’s Prophet offline.
Dead remains dead
Why was the page taken offline? Shortly after the Steam page appeared, doubts arose about whether this restart was a legitimate project. The new official website of Dragon’s Prophet was copied from the original page when the publisher was still Infernum.
A former employee of Infernum spoke out about the situation and stated that he had strong doubts that it was an official restart of Dragon’s Prophet. He suspected it could be a fan server.
The community then discovered that the company behind the game had two names, BOBYGAME and Dragon’s Prophet Games GmbH. However, neither of them had an entry in the commercial register. The company also seemed to have no official license for Dragon’s Prophet.
A spokesperson for the development studio behind Dragon’s Prophet, Runewaker, stated to the website MMO Fallout that BOBYGAME is not a partner of the company. The material that the developers showed as evidence that it was supposedly a legitimate project did not come from Runewaker, but from a source code leak.
What does the team think about this? After the Steam page of Dragon’s Prophet disappeared, the Discord server also closed. The team briefly commented on the official website and explained:
We are sorry that we cannot continue to distribute and develop Dragon’s Prophet. The reactions have deeply disturbed us. Our team does not want to continue in this way and has disbanded.
BOBYGAME
What was really behind this? According to the operator of an unofficial server of Dragon’s Prophet, a group of Turkish players was behind the project who wanted to buy the source code and files of the MMORPG from them. As the person writes in the comments of MassivelyOP, the team wanted to set up a new server themselves.
Whether this is really the case cannot be said for certain at this time. The fact is, nothing came of the project. Dragon’s Prophet is not returning.
