The Day Before is the most wanted game on the Steam platform. Now, the developers Fntastic are looking for volunteers to help in the development of the game unpaid.
What will The Day Before be about? The Day Before is a survival shooter that will be released on Steam. It takes place in a zombie apocalypse, where you fight for your survival.
The first trailers give hints about gameplay content. You will need to take care of resources that secure your survival or you can rush through the apocalyptic landscape with vehicles.
Many are eagerly awaiting the release. Currently, The Day Before ranks number 1 in the Steam list of “Most Wanted” (as of June 28, 2022, via store.steampowered.com).
When is the release of the game? Originally, The Day Before was announced for June 21, 2022. The date has now been pushed back a year to March 1, 2023.

“Fntastic’s culture is based on the idea of volunteer work”
What does Fntastic mean by “volunteers”? On their website, the company explains what is meant by the term “volunteers” (via fntastic.com).
There are two ways to help as a volunteer at Fntastic:
- Full-time
- Part-time
Full-time volunteers work for money. The spots for this are limited. As a part-time volunteer, anyone can help out. As compensation, the company offers “cool rewards, participation certificates, and free codes”.
According to Fntastic, the tasks for part-time volunteers include various activities. They explicitly mention translation activities and community moderation as examples. It is also possible for part-time volunteers to contribute their own skills and improve the game.
MeinMMO asked Fntastic for a statement on the matter. A response is still pending.
How does the community respond on reddit? The reactions to Fntastic’s strategy are mixed (via reddit).
On one hand, there are many critical comments:
- whatnameisnttaken098 says: “So, they want people to develop a massive MMO… unpaid?”
- StabilitySpace is also skeptical: “Everything about this company just looks weird.”
On the other hand, there are also users who defend the company. They argue that Fntastic only assigns small tasks, like forum moderation, to volunteers and “instead of having no translations at all, they allow fans to do the translations.”
