When someone hears Tetris, they immediately think of the simple arcade game with the puzzle blocks. As relaxing as the mechanics may be, its backstory was anything but. A film wants to tell this story, and the trailer is so crazy that our freelance writer Christos needed some time to process it.
What kind of film is it? Apple has a new film about Tetris in the works. However, it is not a film about boring stacked blocks but a more promising action crime story about the backstory of the arcade game.

The backstory of Tetris leaves you speechless
That left me speechless: I have to say, when I heard about a Tetris movie, I thought it would be some animated film about blocks created by Pixar or Disney. When the trailer started, I couldn’t stop watching.
I didn’t know anything about the story of Tetris beforehand. I just thought it was probably another nerd thing from the ’80s created in a garage that happened to achieve great success.
But when the trailer was over, it left me in shock. Unbelievable what effort was put into releasing the arcade game. We’re talking about car chases, agents of the Soviet KGB, and a fight for survival – just to release a game.
Nowadays, it’s completely unimaginable, but that really happened with Tetris back then.
A classic of gaming that is taken for granted today has such a story behind it, and I believe not many know about it. So if you’re interested, it would be worth taking a look at the film.
When does the film come out? According to Apple, the film will be available for streaming on Apple TV+ starting March 31.
