Anyone who grew up in the 90s with Captain Picard and Mister Data also knows Wesley Crusher, the nine-times-smart backup genius aboard the USS Enterprise. The character was played by Wil Wheaton, the arch-nemesis of Sheldon Cooper from the series “The Big Bang Theory” – Wesley Crusher is now in the MMORPG Star Trek Online and is planning something evil.
Who is Wil Wheaton?
- William “Wil” Wheaton (50) is an actor and author who became famous as a child star after appearing in the cult film “Stand by Me” in 1986.
- From 1987 to 1994, Wheaton starred in 85 episodes of “Star Trek – The Next Generation” playing Wesley Crusher, a remarkable genius who served as a “wish-fulfillment fantasy” for young viewers: Though he was far too young to serve on the bridge of the Enterprise, he was so great that there were special rules for him.
- Later, Wheaton used his fame in the “Nerd fandom of Star Trek” to play an evil version of himself in the series, “The Big Bang Theory,” where he frequently clashed with Dr. Sheldon Cooper. Cooper declared Wheaton his arch-enemy because he sat on a bus for ten hours in 1995 to attend a Star Trek convention that Wheaton had skipped.

In this Mirror World, Crusher has risen to the status of Terran Emperor Crusher and is the “greatest threat that has ever threatened the galaxy,” as the developers know. For Crusher has fused with a being known as “The Other,” the Mirror Universe version of the probe V’ger, which has transformed into an intelligent ship. Fans of Star Trek know this well.
In any case, players of the MMORPG must now prevent Crusher from enacting his plans and ascending to become a space god who is set to destroy two universes.

What do people have against Wesley Crusher? The character of Wesley Crusher was meant to attract young viewers to Star Trek: The Next Generation, but many fans outright rejected Crusher: The show seemed to cheat to always portray Crusher as a hero:
- Crusher was allowed to pilot the Enterprise
- had often brilliant ideas that no one else had
- constantly inserted himself into everything
It simply didn’t feel organic that on a ship filled with professionals, the “best of the Starfleet,” a teenager without training had the decisive insights.
