With The Culling: Origins, the battle royale game is being reimagined and returning to former glory. The developers are combining new approaches with past successes, making the game free-to-play.
The Culling as a free-to-play version: After the setback with The Culling 2, the developers Xaviant Studios are making another attempt with The Culling: Origins. The remake of the first part will be free and will be released on September 14th.
Anyone who already owns The Culling will receive some bonuses.

The Culling: Origins is supposed to be better
Mix of Day 1 and fan requests: The Culling: Origins is set to be inspired by the first part of the series. As already announced at the end of the second part, the game is supposed to revert to the state of the “day-one patch”.
This is intended to bring back the “everything goes” approach, with popular features back in focus, including:
- the Day 1 combat system
- perks
- airdrops
- and the general gameplay.
Initially, only “The Island” will be available online as the map, as the prison is not yet optimized for the combat system.

New features based on feedback: In addition to the “back to the roots” approach, there are also some new features that fans have requested and which, according to the developers, should fit well into the game.
The most significant change is that The Culling: Origins will be free-to-play. You can play Origins in full without having to pay. Additionally, other features will be added to the game:
- experience points and leveling
- leaderboards
- “Cull Crates”
- new cosmetics
- new weapons
- a skill-based matchmaking
- voice chat

When can I play? The Culling: Origins will be released on Friday, September 14, 2018, at 6:00 PM for PC on Steam.
Will The Culling: Origins also be available for Xbox? There is still no exact date for the release, but the developers are working on a version for Xbox.
How will the free-to-play model work?
Cosmetics cost: According to the developers at Xaviant Studios, all gameplay aspects will be completely free. Those who want to support the studio can purchase cosmetic items with real money.
You can buy DLCs for real money or “tokens”, with which you can directly buy certain cosmetic items or “Cull Crates”. DLCs contain exclusive cosmetic items.

What are Cull Crates? You receive Culling Crates by leveling up or by purchasing them with tokens. Each Cull Crate contains 4 cosmetic items that you can use to change your appearance. The cosmetics include:
- clothing
- weapon skins
- taunt gestures
- victory emotes
- and Culling Cards.
Duplicate items will reward you with credits instead, which you can also find randomly in the crates. With credits, you can specifically buy cosmetic items. Additionally, you may occasionally find tokens in Culling Crates.

Buyers have advantages: If you purchased The Culling before it was released as a free-to-play version, you will receive an “Original Gangster” pack as a gift. This is a special DLC pack.
As an Original Gangster, you will receive:
- two complete “O.G.” outfits
- 1000 tokens
- 10 Cull Crates
- 4 Culling Cards
- 2 weapon skins
- one victory emote
All content is exclusive to this DLC pack and cannot be purchased individually or obtained through Culling Crates. If you return as a former player since the Big House Update, all your statistics, progress, and unlocks will also be carried over.

Restart after disaster
The Culling is being released again: The developers want to re-release the battle royale game The Culling under the name The Culling: Origins, rather than releasing a sequel.
The first part of The Culling was released in March 2016 and had already shut down by the end of 2017. The reason for this was probably PUBG, which took away The Culling’s player base.
The Culling 2 was not well received: After the demise of the first part, the developers attempted a second part. However, this received catastrophic reviews and numerous negative reviews on Steam.
After just one week, The Culling 2 was taken off the market.
Origins is supposed to do everything better: With The Culling: Origins, the developers hope to achieve the success they did not have with The Culling 2. Origins is said to be the result of careful consideration and feedback from the community.

The Culling: Origins will be free to play. Just see for yourself whether the developers have achieved their goal and whether The Culling: Origins is “good” again.
