With the success of PUBG and Fortnite, the battle royale shooter The Culling had no chance. But now the developers seem to want to try again.

What happened? Against the overwhelming competition from Fortnite and PUBG, new battle royale shooters have a hard time. This was also realized by the developers of The Culling, who discontinued support for their online game at the end of last year. From once around 12,000 players simultaneously, only 78 remained. The Culling is still available for sale on Steam and currently has, according to Steamcharts, 10 concurrent players.
Sequel to follow. A sequel to The Culling is already on the way. The developers shared this via a tweet. However, only the logo was shown. There are no further details about the game.
Did the developers learn nothing? Closing a game because it had no chance in the market, only to announce a successor, seems a bit illogical. However, the developers must have had something in mind. They surely won’t release The Culling 2 with the same setup as the failed predecessor. They likely have developed new ideas, which they believe will make their game successful.
Currently, it is also not clear what kind of game The Culling 2 will be. Another battle royale shooter? Something else? We will find out when the developers present the game in more detail.
