The game Twisted Towers lets you play a demo during the Steam Next Fest. The shooter is reminiscent of BioShock and is even recommended by its creator.
Who is the creator of BioShock? Ken Levine founded the development studio Irrational Games in 1997 with Jonathan Chey and Robert Fermier. He served as lead writer and creative director for the BioShock series.
As the former creative mind behind BioShock, he is regarded as the creator of the legendary shooter.
Which game does he recommend? Ken Levine urges his followers in a post on X to try out the new game from developer Thomas Brush. Brush is currently working with his studio “Atmos Games” on the single-player shooter Twisted Tower, for which a demo is available as part of the upcoming Steam Next Fest.

Horror in a 1950s Amusement Park
What is Twisted Tower about? In Twisted Tower, you play as a desperate man who has been left by his great love for a wealthier guy. But then you receive a mysterious ticket to an amusement park where you can win an equally mysterious prize.
Shortly thereafter, you find yourself at the gates of an abandoned amusement park from the 1950s, where creepy mascots attack you and the rides could use some maintenance.
Your goal within the park is simple: You want to climb the ominous Twisted Tower, for those who reach the top of the tower can expect a prize. What that prize is, however, the mysterious park manager, Mr. Twister, does not want to reveal. However, he promises you that you will like the prize – even if it is supposed to be different than the protagonist expects.
The park manager also makes it clear that he knows about the lady you love so dearly. Within the park, there are also paintings of the young woman on display.
Overall, there are 5 levels in the creepy amusement park that you must traverse: a hotel, a water park, a clown casino, a carnival forest, and a fairy-tale castle. The entire amusement park is reminiscent of various Disney worlds and BioShock – especially the latter is evident through the bizarre enemies and the overall level design.
How is the game received? Even the demo of Twisted Tower makes a really good impression on players. Currently, a strong 92% of about 630 reviews on Steam are positive (as of February 23, 2025).
Although there are some criticisms, such as optimization, the art style is particularly impressive. Besides the design of the enemies, the sound contributes significantly to the atmosphere of the shooter, enhancing its overall appeal.
