Since the announcement of the release date for the major update “Dawn of the Hunt”, Path of Exile 2 has caused trouble among its own fans, as the release is set shortly after the start of the new season of Last Epoch. Now, the developers of Last Epoch have finally thrown in the towel and are postponing their launch with a sharp statement.
What have the developers announced? The developers of Last Epoch have announced in a statement on X.com that they will postpone the release of their second season “Tombs of the Erased”.
Instead of launching on April 2, 2025, as originally planned, the release will now take place on April 17, 2025, which is well over two weeks after the release of the major update from Path of Exile 2 and two weeks before the start of Season 8 of Diablo 4. The developers also explain the reason for the postponement.

The Postponement is Necessary
Why are the developers of Last Epoch postponing their release? According to the statement from the developers, the reason for the postponement is clearly Path of Exile 2. They write: “We recently learned that our friends in the ARPG space have chosen a release date that falls just a few days after ours, which would split the player base and hinder the success of the launch of Season 2.”
At the end of February, the developers of Last Epoch announced that their new Season 2 “Tombs of the Erased” was supposed to start on April 2, 2025. After the ARPG lost 99% of its players since version 1.1 in July 2025 (via SteamDB), many genre fans were looking forward to the start of the new season to return and try out the many new contents of the patch.
About two weeks later, the much larger ARPG Path of Exile 2 announced the start of its own season. This is set to take place on April 4, 2025, just 2 days after the launch of Last Epoch. This not only angers fans who want to play both seasons, but also disappoints the developers of Last Epoch.
What does Last Epoch say about the postponement? An official statement could hardly be clearer. In the post from Last Epoch, it says: “With a heavy heart, we find ourselves forced to postpone the release date of Season 2 – Tombs of the Erased to April 17.”
Before this, the developers write: “Last Epoch is a smaller studio in this field that sees each of its releases as an opportunity to financially support the studio and work on the things that matter to us.” So for the developers, the success of the new season is also important from a financial perspective.
As currently only about 1% of over 264,000 players log in during peak times (via SteamDB), who once played the ARPG, the further development of Last Epoch could depend on the success of Season 2 and the interest of the players. The fact that Path of Exile 2 is coming in their way was not well received by the developers: Path of Exile 2 is causing angry fans with the new season, now the competitors’ developers react.
