Call of Duty Black Ops 4 with Battle Royale mode? Publisher Activision Blizzard, the company behind Call of Duty and Destiny 2, is “very aware” of the popularity of the genre.
It is quite possible that Activision will soon take a piece of the Battle Royale pie. This means that future (and current) games are theoretically eligible for a BR mode. This can be inferred from statements by the investment firm Oppenheimer.
Activision could ride the trend
Recently, Oppenheimer and Activision met for a meeting. The Financial Officer of Activision stated there that the company can quickly jump on lucrative trends. And Battle Royale is exactly that for the companies behind it – lucrative. The success of games like Fortnite and PUBG has not gone unnoticed by Activision Blizzard.
“The investment firm says that Activision is very aware of how much game publishers have recently benefited from releasing titles in the Battle Royale genre,” explains Dow Jones Newswires.
“Management has reminded investors that the company is a ‘Fast Follower’. Translated, a Fast Follower is a company that is quick to implement good, new ideas from other companies.”
Whether a Battle Royale mode will be activated in the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 remains unclear. The typical modes in a Call of Duty game include the single-player campaign, multiplayer mode with additional features, and the zombie mode.
A BR mode would probably only be feasible in a special implementation. After all, CoD is a first-person shooter, and most Battle Royale games can also be played in third-person mode. Whether CoD will then adapt to a third-person perspective or only present the BR mode in first-person perspective are questions the community is asking.
However, nothing further has been officially confirmed here except: Activision knows that Battle Royale is currently all the rage. It remains exciting to see what news Activision will use to attract attention in the coming weeks and months.
