The medieval MMO Mordhau is said to have a particularly nasty community. The developers are now addressing this issue and plan comprehensive measures against trolls, griefers, and racists in the next update, which will also include leaderboards and a 64-player mode.
Mordhau, the medieval MMO from indie developer Triternion, is not only known for the realistic and thrilling sword fights. Unfortunately, the game is also plagued by various trolls who burden the experience with toxic behavior.
Among other things, there are various players who reject female avatars and characters of non-white ethnicities and have expressed a wish for an option to hide such game figures.
Here’s how the developers plan to tackle toxic players: After triggering a small controversy regarding the aforementioned hide option, the developers are now more than ever focused on improving the bad reputation of their community.
Therefore, the upcoming update will bring the following new features:
- A client-side chat filter will preemptively delete the worst verbal transgressions before they even reach the chat.
- Griefers and trolls, who intentionally hinder other players and ruin their fun, will be better monitored.
- The system for voting to kick a player from the team will be revised. An easier UI is planned, and measures against system abuse will be implemented.
Let’s hope these methods are sufficient to cleanse the toxic community.
New maps, leaderboards, and 64-player maps in the next update
What else is coming in the update? In addition to measures for a nicer community, the patch will tackle the following major features:
- A new mode for 64 players, called Invasion, which will include sieges and mission objectives. Two maps are planned: Castello, a large castle, and Feitora, a twisted city.
- A leaderboard mode will be introduced, featuring six ranks from Bronze to Elite. Each rank also has 5 sub-levels where you can ascend and descend.
- There will be various fixes, including to firebombs, horses, and other balancing issues.
When will the new update come? The developers did not want to specify anything concrete. They prefer not to set hard deadlines and focus instead on making the update good.
What does the community say? Players commented positively on the announcement of the update:
- “It’s wonderful to hear from you again!”
- “Great thing, can hardly wait”
- “Sounds awesome, I’m so glad that vote-kicks can’t be easily abused anymore.”
