What kind of city is this? The valiant soldiers of Helldivers 2 recently fought not only in the home galaxy, but on the home planet, Over-Earth. However, the Illuminated’s attacks seemed to be too strong. One by one, more and more cities fell into the hands of the enemies.
The last bastion for the Helldivers is the mega-city Equality-On-Sea, which is located on the world map where Shanghai stands in the real world. The relentless battle for the last major city of mankind not only brought many Helldivers back into the game (via SteamDB), but also showed how well humanity stands together when it comes to the whole.

From Helldivers 2 to Television
What’s going on with television? The battle for Equality-On-Sea, the in-game counterpart to Shanghai, also spread among the city’s residents. The 25-million-people metropolis has its own local television station, which usually reports on the happenings in the city.
However, the fact that the world is currently defending its city as the last bastion of humanity against virtual enemies was worth a feature for the television station. In a news broadcast (available on kankanews.com), the two hosts discussed the battle for Over-China, as the city is also referred to by players.
The hosts explained (via Reddit) how all cities fell one by one and that the players did not follow the developers’ plan to ultimately fight over Stockholm, the seat of the developer studio. Instead, the last bastion became the metropolis of Shanghai.
The battle for Over-China was decided on May 30, 2025. To save the world, players around the globe collaborated.
Especially the collaboration between Chinese and American players was praised by the hosts in the feature. They had coordinated to fight the enemies during their respective daytime and allow the other players a break at night. For the final battle on Friday, 130,000 players worldwide were active at the same time and successfully defended Equality-On-Sea and thus Over-Earth.
After the successful defense of Over-Earth, the galactic war is far from won.
