The bots in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 are intentionally bad so that you feel better

In Space Marine 2 the AI companions are not much help, but according to the developers, there is a reason for this. Nevertheless, relief is expected soon.

What is the problem with the companions?

• The AI companions in Space Marine 2 are considered relatively “dumb” by players.
• The community criticizes that the companions are inefficient, make solo games more difficult, and do not help to accomplish tasks or survive intense situations.
• The only thing the bots do well is reviving.

The players’ criticism of the companions has also reached the developers of Space Marine 2. They have now explained why the bots behave this way and at the same time announced a change.

Why are the companions so useless? The developers explained the behavior of the AI companions in a Q&A about the current status of Space Marine 2 (via focus-entmt.com). They said, “Bots seem a bit passive because we don’t want them to take the spotlight away from the player.”

This means that you should be at the center of the action and the celebrated heroes. If the bots were better and actually contributed to completing tasks, it would harm your reputation as the “savior in need.”

Nevertheless, the developers of the coop shooter are not entirely satisfied with the companions and announced a patch.

What kind of change is expected? In the Q&A, the developers explained that the bots currently act a bit too passively. Therefore, there will be some improvements in the next patch.

The AI companions are expected to behave better in boss fights as a result of the patch. Additionally, the developers are considering that the bots could participate more actively in fulfilling specific tasks in the future. However, that would come with a later patch.

Actually, you should be able to successfully complete a mission in Space Marine 2 despite the AI companions – at least on the low and medium difficulty levels. After all, the developers stated that you can even complete missions if your teammates are just dead weight: “Idiots” in the team should not be a reason for failure in Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2
