Bots are an integral part of the multiplayer of Battlefield 2042. Even in the open beta, you can encounter them repeatedly. These encounters vary greatly; sometimes they are unbeatable, sometimes incredibly stupid. One case strongly resembles the movie “The Matrix.”
What’s up with the bots? The main function of the bots in Battlefield 2042 is to fill spots in matches that are not occupied by players. So, for example, if you end up on an empty server, you will still encounter AI opponents in a match.
These bots seem to be quite immature based on feedback from previous players. They often behave sluggishly and foolishly, and they created ridiculous situations, especially in the Early Access phase. For instance, they use vehicles like tanks but barely hit their opponents and only obstruct them for their “real” teammates.
However, one case from the player TGehT11 shows that they are also capable of incredible moves that one usually only sees in The Matrix. You can check it out in the clip here:
Bots are “out of control” – dodging bullets and trolling their opponents
What can be seen in the clip? The player is currently in a tunnel when an AI opponent runs into him. TGehT11 is supposed to shoot him, but the bot just “jumps” quickly and without an animation sequence into the air, easily dodging the bullet.
After this crazy jump, the bot runs toward the player and simply “machetes” him down. This resembles a scene from The Matrix where the characters can simply dodge bullets:

The user RustyFork97 also thinks so: “Holy damn Matrix, dude.” monsieur_beau19 thinks the bot could be the One.
Many players are amused by the erratic behavior of the bots and make other comparisons to other characters from pop culture, such as Jason Bourne or Aang from Avatar, The Last Airbender.
In another situation, a player was killed by a bot and the bot then seemed quite rude in his victory. In any case, he sits over the corpse of his victim and pulls off the classic teabag move that players usually use to troll their opponents.
On good days, bots can not only be buffers until real players join the match but can actually achieve something.
Even if the Matrix jump looks more like a glitch than intentional AI behavior. Developer DICE will need to adjust this before the release of Battlefield 2042.
Until then, you can familiarize yourself with the bots in the open beta, as long as your sessions are not filled with players.
What else are bots good for in Battlefield 2042? As far as we know, players will also be able to create their own matches with bots and thus will not be forced to compete against other players.
They will probably also play a significant role in the “Hazard Zone” mode if the previous leaks are to be believed. So far, EA has not revealed the mode in detail.
By the way: You can still play the beta of Battlefield 2042 until tomorrow. The servers will close at 9:00 AM, so you can still test the conquest mode on the orbital map until then.
