Rod Fergusson is the head of the entire Diablo franchise at Blizzard. In a “secret” tweet, he has now revealed which is the most played class in Diablo 4. Surprisingly, it is the class without a single S-Tier build at the moment.

Looking at the tier list of Diablo 4, one sees that the Sorceress is precisely the class that does not quite play at the top. All other classes have at least one build in the best tier, only the Sorceress does not. She only plays in the A-tier.

Why is the Sorceress so popular? An official reason is not given, but Sorcerers have been around since Diablo 1 in every installment of the series. The Barbarian can only claim that, though he appeared in the first part only with the Hellfire expansion.
Moreover, Sorceresses have visually a lot to offer in Diablo 4. Whether with fire, lightning, or ice, their mastery over the elements simply looks damn cool on screen, and it is fun to play the class.

By the way, Fergusson is by no means a fan of the class himself. As he explains in a video on YouTube, he is “Necro Main 4 life” – thus a Necromancer. Generally, Blizzard has quite different favorite classes.
In an interview, Associate Game Director Joe Piepiora revealed to me that he would play a Druid if he could never switch again. Otherwise, Barbarian is his favorite class. Art Director John Mueller prefers the Huntress.
Fergusson’s tweet receives a lot of approval, especially from Sorcerer players. However, some wish that there would be some cooler skins for the class.
In another place, the players are quite angry. Or rather: people who would like to be players but can’t play. This includes the famous Whoopi Goldberg, who apparently counts herself among the fans of the series:
