The Blizzard CEO wants to reveal some details about upcoming Blizzard content. Fans hope for Diablo and finally fresh WoW content.
Regardless of which Blizzard game you are a fan of, there has been a huge content drought in recent months. No new hero has been released in Heroes of the Storm for over a year, Overwatch has been completely dormant for a long time, and World of Warcraft is in one of the least popular expansions of all time, while accurate info on Diablo is also scarce. But that could soon come to an end, as Blizzard’s CEO Mike Ybarra promises announcements.
Who is speaking? Mike Ybarra, the current CEO of Blizzard. He took over the position from J. Allen Brack after the sexism scandal came to light. Initially, he led the company together with Jennifer Oneal, but Oneal left Blizzard just a few months later.
As it later turned out, she did so due to unequal pay, even though both CEOs had requested equal treatment. Now Ybarra is alone in the position. He communicates quite a bit with players and is generally seen as a positive influence who also plays World of Warcraft at a very high level.
What was said? In a post that actually revolves around changes to the company culture, Ybarra also had a little teaser ready. Toward the end of the Blizzard blog post, he said:
We also know that we need to deliver content to our players more regularly and create innovations in and beyond our existing games. We have some exciting things to announce, and I will share them with you next week.
Ybarra doesn’t provide an exact date, but Blizzard fans can at least look forward to next week with a bit of anticipation.
This also aligns with Ybarra’s message from a few days ago that he had some “product reviews” – he looked at games or content that will soon be ready for presentation.
What could be announced? The range of possible announcements is quite broad. A few potentially possible details would be:
- A release date for Patch 9.2 Eternity’s End in World of Warcraft
- Introduction of the next expansion for World of Warcraft
- Introduction of the new mini-set for Hearthstone
- More information about Overwatch 2 or a possible beta
- Detailed information about the release of Diablo: Immortal
- More details about Diablo IV
Aside from that, it would also be possible for Blizzard to talk about entirely new games that have been in the works for quite some time but have never been revealed. Some hope for more concrete announcements, such as when and if certain Blizzard games will land in Game Pass.
What exactly it will ultimately be, we will likely find out over the course of next week. What are you looking forward to?
