The medieval MMORPG The Black Death is having a hard time. However, the developers believe in the interesting game concept and are not giving up despite poor player numbers.
15 players online at the same time in an MMORPG. The Black Death is not performing as well as the developers had hoped. And this, despite the fact that the actual idea of the game is interesting:
- You live in the medieval period during the plague
- You can get infected with the disease
- Infected players represent dangerous opponents as they can spread the disease
- You build a virtual life in the sandbox world
- Become a merchant, healer, bard, bandit, or fighter
- PvP is possible everywhere
- The game world offers many dangers
- Crafting and trading can be lucrative
Good concept, but it doesn’t resonate well
It is particularly interesting that the concept of being able to become infected with the plague and going through various stages of the disease. Because once you are infected, you pose a danger to everyone in the world. Do you hide the disease at first and risk infecting others, or do you try to get healed quickly? Eventually, it will be noticeable, and then you’ll have a problem. This and the general life in the medieval period, which was anything but easy, create a dark atmosphere in The Black Death.
However, the game is not doing well at all. Nevertheless, the developers are convinced that their concept can work. That’s why they have now released a new, large update. This brings the following to the game:
- Improved graphics
- Optimized light and fog effects for a better atmosphere
- A wiki where you can get tips
- Many bug fixes
- Improved AI
- Revised balancing
More updates in the pipeline
Additionally, the team is already working on further updates, which will improve animations and introduce throwing weapons and trees that you can fell. We will see how all this impacts the player numbers of The Black Death.
