Rank 2: Battlefield 6 + 1
What kind of game is this? With Battlefield 6, EA continues the popular shooter series, in which you fight in large battles with up to 64 players for flags or other objectives. Unlike its predecessor Battlefield 2042, there are again various classes, plenty of destruction, and a scoreboard. And all this in a modern setting, with real weapons, vehicles, and maps in real locations like New York City.
Why this rank? After the release debacle of Battlefield 2042, EA set the goal of bringing back a new installment of the popular shooter series that focuses exactly on what longtime fans of the series love.
What has emerged is a shooter that conveys the typical Battlefield feeling, shaped by tanks that demolish entire houses or jets zooming low over the heads of infantry. Gameplay-wise, there is modern, relatively fast, but not overly extreme movement and intuitive gunplay. The weapons differ in their gameplay and have different strengths and weaknesses.
The short version of REDSEC: A good battle royale that can provide a lot of fun for genre fans, but the typical Battlefield feeling doesn’t quite come across despite Battlefield gameplay aspects. More about this here:
REDSEC shows me in the first round why millions of players love battle royale, but does not forget that it is still a Battlefield
Battlefield 6 is fun, and that is not least due to the really good sound design and decent performance with beautiful graphics. The overall package is solid and deficiencies are mainly noticeable if you are more than just a casual player. However, these deficiencies are one of the reasons why Battlefield 6 only reaches second place.
A recurring criticism of Battlefield 6 is primarily the size of the maps. They are noticeably smaller in some cases than in older parts. This can generate a fun gameplay flow for 100-150 hours, but eventually, there is a tiring feeling because, due to the size of the maps, there is rarely time to catch your breath.
Additionally, it currently takes too long for urgent issues to be addressed. Drone glitches, uncounterable laser-guided rockets, non-spawning helicopters for one of the two teams, an undesirably high random bullet spread, insufficient hit registration… Many problems have been known for a long time and have waited weeks for a patch, some are still waiting.
All of this currently diminishes the fun of the game, but since the basic structure still entertains for many hours and issues can be resolved and new, larger maps can be created, Battlefield 6 is the second-best shooter of this autumn.
